Hello everybody!

I've been saving up for a Highway One strat and I hope to be there soon. However, with the introduction of the American Specials I was wondering if the Highway Ones would be discontinued? That'd be a shame - I've been saving up for quite a while and I love the nitro finish.

I was simply wondering if I should be worried or not!

Thanks,

Michael (Netherlands)

Ever since the American Special was introduced, I've seen a number of threads about this topic - usually with a very similar title - but have yet to see anything about the H1 being discontinued mentioned by Fender in an official capacity. It seems to be an assumption that's been doing the rounds on these boards (and elsewhere).

I did notice that the H1 is now available in fewer colours choices (only black and sunburst) - the entry on this site doesn't feature them in Midnight Wine or Honey Blonde any longer - perhaps this has caused some of the speculation about the H1's future?

I've got a H1 and think they're brilliant - the best guitar I've ever owned, bar none; it suits me like a favourite old pair of sneakers. I love it.

Even if they are discontinued in the near future, I don't think they'll become unobtainable for some time - I'm in Australia, but I see quite a few around in my local guitar shops, and no shortage of them online, etc.

It does make you wonder, though, as the two models are extremely similar. Perhaps Fender are just testing the market, to see which one will make more money for them?

For now, Highway 1 are still be sold. They are going down in value because of the American Special, but that's to your benefit...

They are still listed on the new summer Sweetwater Gear catalog.

That's no problem, I love sunburst. Called a (large) store today though, and they said they were sold out and likely to be replaced by the American Special. This worried me to some extent.

If the H1 is still being listed in some of the newer catalogues, as someone else posted above, then I wouldn't worry too much.

I have not read any official Fender notice of the Highway 1 Stratocaster being discontinued, but they may be phasing them out over time. I like the Highway 1 and the American Special. If I walked into a shop tomorrow and they offered a straight trade for my Highway 1, I would have to decline. I have too much sweat, blood, and money in it to just give mine up.

With that being said, my next purchace will be an American Special (SSS).

You can still buy them, but only in Black or Sunburst.

i think this is the correct answer.

dont get me wrong the Am Spcl is a nice guitar, but I would take Hwy 1 over it any day.
