About 16 years ago I had to pawn my circa 1990 American Standard in order to pay the bills. It hurt. I certainly wasn't very good on it, but I really enjoyed just holding it and noodling around.
Well, after many years of hard work I'm finally at the point I can justify the expense. About 3 weeks ago I picked up a brand new American Special (2 tone brown sunburst), found my old books, bought a couple new books, and I'm learning again. This time I'm taking my time and learning how to read the little black dots, too.
I'm looking forward to many years enjoyment and frightening the cats.

Welcome. I started at 33 so I do have a few years ahead of me but like most people I really wish that I had started in my teens. At least we're on board now, enjoy!

Oh you're not alone RM...
After a many year absence after my circa-1972 Strat was stolen from me, I decided to start again. Life happens.

I won't be getting the band back together but who knows, I may run into some old codgers like myself and jam. That's the part I miss most!

Keep it in tune,
-T

Welcome RM!

You're never too old. I waited a long time in my life to get to where I had the time and money to begin and since then it's been my #1 time and money waster and my favorite hobby. It's much cheaper than therapy too!

There are wonderful, wonderful people here on the forum from around the world. I've learned loads about guitars and the music business and some too about life and people in general. It's a great place. Stick around!

Welcome to the forum, Radioactive Man! I started two years ago at the age of 43. I'm not good by any definition, but I'm having a great time. Enjoy! 8)

Hi and Welcom Radioactive Man!

OBC, I love it!

I always wanted to play. Baseball, football, the Marines, marriage, starting a career, kids and a whole other litany of reasons maybe didn't stop me but kept learning a lower priority.

Shopping at Costco I kept seeing the Starcaster package for $200.00 bucks. After picking it up, plucking the strings for what seem like a coulple of years, I bought one. Got some books, joined Jamplay on the internet and started down the road. 6 months later I got a new amp to replace the packaged one. Last Christmas my wife gave me a Standard Strat (ok, really she LET me buy it, but I claim it was a gift and that keeps her in the mood to let me spend more money 8) )

A couple of months ago I started playing with a bunch of guys in a garage. No auditions, no practive, just a group of guys getting together on Saturday to play each others music, learn eash others songs and drink some beer.

Tonight, we are taking the garage jam public. Still not a "band", still more of a jam, but in public. Outside of meeting my wife and having my kids, buying that Starcaster was the best thing I have done.

Congrats on the new Strat! May it bring you many hours, days and years of fun and joy!

Welcome to a long road of picking,I've been playing for 40 odd years and still learn something every time I pick up a guitar.
Sometimes I'll lay it down for awhile then pick it up and fall in love again.
One of the old guys I learned from in the early days said about learning to play,"just about when you get ready to throw it out the window, something will click, make sense, and you'll love it."

Welcome to the forum Radioactive Man. No need to be a virtuoso to enjoy playing guitar. Like you said, take your time and have fun. :)

Congrats and welcome to the Forum! Just got back into playin' about a year ago after about a 40 year lay off and I'm lovin' it!!! Since then I've become a Strat owner, thanks to my lovely wife who gave me the guitar of my dreams for my 60th. birthday. At Christmas I got a bass and just recently an acoustic electric. Will it never end???.......NOPE.

OBC...LMAO! I love it!
