I do not think that this guitar is a Fender HM Strat. Here is why I think that.
I compared this Bud guitar to my 1990 HM Strat, and many things are not the same.
The HM Strat body is a sculpted body, meaning the back is shaped to accomodate playing high up the neck. It is also slightly smaller than a stock Strat body. Mine is kept in a Jackson Dinky rect. case, so it is roughly the same size as a Jackson Dinky.
The heel is sculpted, like a Jeff Beck model Strat.
The headstock logos are not correct for an HM model, compared to my "STRAT" script-type lettering.
The HM had a Kahler Flyer tremelo.
The HM had 3 control knobs, plus a coil tap toggle switch.
E series serial numbers do come from USA AND Japan, so it is hard to find out it's exact origin. I must say that I have never known Fender to put "Fender USA" on a MIJ guitar.
The body looks like a superstrat type body, and the neck looks to me like a MIJ neck with new logos.
I could be wrong about all this, but the stock HM I own and play is a lot different from that BUD guitar.
