Hi all,
Anybody knows for how long the 3-colour sunburst has been discontinued?
I've been trying to get one with a maple fretboard all over the net but they're nowhere to be found...

BUMP!

Although I can't help much to contribute some info about the thread subject... (googling it right now)... as of yesterday I'm proud owner of sunburst Stratocaster AVRI 70s.

What a sweet guitar, that 7,25" radius is nothing I've ever imagined it to be... I thought I'd feel "cramped" on that neck but boy was I wrong... I dig the "U" shape!
First I tried out Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster (my primary target for purchase)... first thing I noticed that although I can play it (but feels somewhat different and "harder" that normal strat TBH sinc of scalloped neck) I tried out AVRI 70s and I knew it instantly this is the thing I want.

I don't really prefer sunburst all that much, but I feel it goes along with this guitar, just nicely. I hope it to be my lifelong companion 8) .

Hi guys... I know I keep resurrecting this topic but I have one more question... this 3TS strats, they have Ash bodies don't they (I guessed, same as natural ones)?

Here is mine, I'm not an expert when it comes to wood, but surely some of you guys are 8) .

Just took pics with my cellular hope wood grain can be recognized.

They have stopped displaying on the site and if they are nowhere to be found, then yes they are discontinued in 3CS.

However, there are the MIM Classic 70's strat and the MIJ ST-72 and ST-71 ASH options.. Otherwise you will see them start to be made by the Customshop.

I would rather a MIM or MIJ, anything more and you are in MIA price territory. A little more, and you can have an original... I'd do some good shopping around however.

To add to some irony, I never really searched for 3TS Strat I don't really dig that color.
However this one (from 2005) was nice so I bought it... only to find out that they don't make them in that colour any more...

Anyhow if I had a chance to play and try out some MiJ or some good MiM Classic it isn't impossible that I'd buy that guitar... I'm not really into a "prestige" or some sort of collecting expensive guitars etc. all I wanted is an axe that plays really sweet and I think I nailed it 8) .

But still my original questions remain... when 3TS was discontinued and is 3TS AVRi 70s made from Ash or Alder?
Naturals are made from Ash according to this site...

Natural bodies are always made from ash.

There are some exceptions, though. Only a very few natural Fender guitars and basses were made from alder, but they're rare.

I have no real preferences in the wood type, only that it isn't really heavy as I don't like unnecessarily heavy guitars. But it is always interesting to know what type of wood was used...

Sorry, I was answering OP's question initially, but all sunburst 70's strats were Ash. Even re-issue models. I have yet to see otherwise. I can't tell you when sunburst was discontinued, you may have to refer to online frontline magazines to find out. Personally, I don't know why they did it- perhaps to get a sunburst, one must resort to the Customshop. There are the other options from the Customshop, Classic Series Line and Fender Japan. The exact specs are very vague on these, even on the Customshop models. Sometimes you can end up paying more for a Custom than you would for original..

Hey, you have a nice guitar there- I guess 3CS models will become sought after if they arent being offered.

I have two reissued MIM models and love them both. For $450 you can score one on ebay with a little watching. Most go for $500. The pickups suck but that can be fixed with your favorite set installed in 30 minutes or less. Great neck. beautidul bodys and very close to the real deal without the big bucks of the vintage or USA made model. Finish is super. I have a maple neck and a rosewood neck model. Both beautiful sunburst.

Guys thanks for all your replies 8) ... as you pointed out I "consulted" Fender Frontline PDF magazine and it seems that they have it for 2006 and 2007 but in magazine for 2008 sunburst is gone. That would indicate that, if I haven't mistaken something, sunburst model was produced for ~2 years or so.
...
The other day I was in store checking out some strats and iI grabbed MiM 50s Fiesta red classic, haven't plugged it in still I see that guitar was nicely made, they didn't have 60s or 70s but I guess they are very similar. Very cool guitars for the money.
