Quick question:
Bought a beautiful looking and sounding mid 70s Strat. All original, all stamps correct, except of a slight discrepancy with the neck stamp. I mean it's not incorrect, it only carries an 03 = maple fretboard instead of an 00 or 01 = rosewood and my guitar has a rosewood fretboard.

What can I do now? If my kids are going to sell it in lets say 35 years it will be kinda hard to explain.
I know that at that time it could happen that the guys in the Fullerton mill also forget to stamp it anyways...

Do you think I can get some kind of an official Feedback from Fender that explains the stamp?

What are all the numbers on the stamp? The numbers with 8 digits have both make and date info while the 4 digit stamps are date info.

0903*5164

The 03 doesn't fit the rosewood neck that's the problem.

Yeah, you're right, if it's a rosewood board then it should be a 01 or 02, it very well could be a mistake made at the factory, I don't know if fakes get down to that level of detail.

Thank you very much for taking the time Voodoo. Well I think you are right. I mean the guitar was produced in the end of 76, those factory guys were already in "end of the year/X-Mas Mood", so it could very well be that a guy grabbed the wrong stamp. The guitar looks totally convincing and I doubt that the original owner changed the fretboard. Those costs? What for?

The 03 code could appear on maple or rosewood necks, unfortunately.
I guess that makes it kind of meaningless, no?

See this: http://www.ggjaguar.com/neckcode.htm

As for it being a 1976, does the serial number appear on the headstock?
And does it match up with pot codes, etc?

03 = fretted maple neck OR skunk stripe neck with rosewood board

does your neck have a skunk stripe?
