I think it's all personal preference. Some say maple creates a brighter sound while rosewood is warmer. Some people choose based simply on appearance.

I prefer maple because I think it accomodates my style of playing better.

It really all comes down to the string and fret. If the fret is seated in rosewood, maple or even metal, the sound will ring differently. Looks are not that important when the lights are low and your playing with feeling. If you put a resinating pick-up in/on the body, then you will get the "wood" sounding.

It depends on the look/sound I'm going for. I really go with what looks best honestly. But I also take into consideration what kind of music i'm going to play with the guitar. Like, say, with a telecaster, I'll always go with maple. But with a gibson style guitar, rosewood. And a strat, I'll go with either. It's all good to me.

I have mostly maple necks on my Strats, but I have one in rosewood just in case who ever I am working with requests a rosewood neck. MY tele's are rosewood and maple also. I think it is good to have both, that way you can decide what sound you are looking for in recording or live performance. :D

Rosewood is going to better on your bluesy type music because it's smoothe and has a darker tone. Where as Maple is cutting and it sustains much longer than rosewood. sometimes better for leads.

Its all based on the stile of what you play most

Rock:R

Blues:R/M

Clasic:M

Maple gets cleaner for mager,miner,7th,ect. rosewood is more for power cords and harder stuff. also ebonyis nice too
