Hey, I'm thinking of trading one of my guitars in for this beast, but what do you guys think, is it legit or is it not?

http://www.finn.no/finn/bap/object?finn ... Id=1694034

It's in Norwegian, so I'll transelate what he's writing:
"Beautiful, little used icon from the 70's. Top playing action and top cosmetic wise. Beatiful natural finish. This should be a colectorsitem that doesnt lose value.
Here you have got the chance to get a outstanding model. Delivered with original case."

I'm not asking because I'm suspicious, but I'm just really careful when it comes to buying guitars.

Hope you guys can help me, as you have done before!

It looks correct for a 1979. If that pickguard is original it looks in really good shape. Body looks in good shape too, seen other 79's like that where the finish was crazing, can't see any in those pics.

Are you actually able to look and play the guitar? Would be nice to see some pics with the pickguard off, and pics of the pickups.

I wouldn't consider it because 70's strats are not high value like the pre CBS era. Unless you really want a mint guitar that may be a fake, its not worth the risk. You could require the neck to be removed and check it. What's throwing me off is the logo. What is the Fender logo showing its lines, but the other logo parts not????

The outline around the fender doesn't seem to be as sharp as it should be. But I've seen a few different pics where they look different, so not sure if it's fake, or they were just inconsisent at the time.

I might not be able to try it, and that's kind of my problem ...

But what kind of made me wonder is that it's missing the "original contour body" which I've seen on most 70's strats ...

And, yeah, the logo looks a little weird ...

Thansk for quick replies! :D

This headstock looks exactly the same actually:

And I think the pics from the guitar are just a little blurry ...

Hard to tell in the pic, but looks like the outline is blurry? but also looks like the wood grain is darker there, so it could just be the wood kind of blending in with it.

Well, just my humble $.02 worth but it all does look correct to me...if it's a fake, it's a really good one! LOL! The serial number does look consistent with a '79 as does the Bullet truss rod, the 3 hole neck plate, etc., etc..

Now in this case I do agree with Detroitblues in that I would -demand- pictures of the neck pocket and the heal of the neck to verify the authenticity of this instrument. Look for date stamps and especially any extra holes in the neck (make sure the neck wasn't on a 4 bolt body or something). Since the seller is selling this as a collectors item (and DB is right, it's not going to be worth as much as a pre-CBS) he/she should be willing to provide that. Some shots under the pickguard of both the cavities and the e-tronics would also be a big plus. I would also check around on the internet and find out what the going price on these is...yea, it's collectible but it's not that collectible, so be careful with the price even if it is legit...don't expect to pay nearly as much for it as you would for a genuine '62 or a '57.

Again just my $.02 worth,
Jim
