Hi,

I have a 1994-1995 strat made in Japan with serial number #T01**** and neckstamp ST-460R. I know ST stands for stratocaster and R stands for rosewood. I was told that 460 is the model (standard/'60/'62/...) but I can't seem to find any reference material. Does anyone know what model '460' is?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum.

ST-460R is just a part number.

I made some pictures of my guitar. The quality isn't that great (crappy camera). Don't mind the stickers. I am removing them as we speak.

OMG - I'm in love!! Can I have it??? Please????

There is just something about a well-worn strat - from wherever - that is like no other guitar in the world.

Nice Ax!

Well I'm not expert on this era of the MIJ's and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along here, but near as I can tell from the pics, this appears to be a "Standard"...basically the MIJ equivalent of the MIM's. I could be wrong here but as I understand it, they sold (and still sell) the MIJ's over in the European market so as not to compete with themselves with the MIM's here in the American market...in other words, same basic thing as an MIM Standard Strat, different country of origin.

I will say that the Strats from Japan do have a very well earned reputation for being very good instruments...I know my '85 E-series MIJ Squier is simply exceptional. The one downside of these instruments is that there really doesn't seem to be a lot of specific info out there on Japan made Fenders so I'd really have to go with Feather's comment about the 460 just basically being a "part number" more than anything.

Now personally I'd clean that guitar up a bit...you said you've already removed the stickers, so that's a good start! LOL!!! Personally I'd also get some matching pu covers and knobs too...I just don't like "ratty looking" guitars myself. I will say that I do love the sound of those Duncan rails in a Strat (like you have in the bridge position)...I have a full set of them in my '96 MIM and they sound really great.

Anyways, looks like a pretty decent axe there.

Peace,
Jim

Thx, I have cleaned it up a bit. I removed the stickers, changed the black knobs with the original knobs and I'm planning on putting back the original pickup in the bridge position.

I assumed it was a 'standard' model so thanks for the verification. To bad there isn't much information about these wonderful guitars.

Finally...i see a model that looks like mine.
is this a U-series serial number?

i have Strat...i think it's the Vintage White in a U-ser. No. with Made in Japan on headstock and the Fender (NOT Fender Japan) Stamped Gotoh Tuning Machines. The ST-460-R on the neck. 3 ply pickguard..w/b/w. 3 single coil pups...11 screws in guard.
rosewood on maple...it's definately a 1995/96 issue...but which one?
Only reissues and the Ventures and the Fat Strat? i think were made in Japan that year...and it has the tell tale 1996 gold sticker on the headstock so we know it's a 95/96. But mine has the 3 single coils and 5 position...yours has a Seymour Duncan, i saw. Hmmm My body is like 2 inches thick. skunk stripe on neck.

so you're not the only one with the ST-460-R on the neck. What does it mean? It may have said Ri in there...hard to tell...there was a little dot of stain after the R...but it may have a little i there. :)

and the saddles are Fender stamped on mine too.

She's a lot better looking than the American models i've seen from that year.

Yes, this is a 1995 or thereabouts, Standard Strat. I just checked the 1995 Fender 18 page catalog to make sure and they have listed one that looks just like this with that style of tuners, Made in Japan
