I got one last friday, beautiful guitar, very eye catching, but it was almost unplayable...the neck was bent, the action too high etc...

After having worked for one hour on the set up the guitar turned to be very friendly, obviously you can't get a action too low with a radius of 7.25", but it was a incredible improvement from the situation the instrument was sold.

Still, I don't understand how a serious enterprise like FMI can sell guitars in that state, I don't wonder why a lot of people (Gibson fans, mostly) say that Fenders are bad guitars.[/i]

It's not Fender's fault....all guitars exit the factory fully set-up, so it's really the shop that didn't take care of the guitar.

the problem is that ALL the guitars I tried in various shops of my town had the same problems, and I tried 1500 euro instruments, the Eric Johnson signature, various american vintage, also a custom shop...

mine was almost spot on from the factory.i noticed that you priced in euros...possibly a long ride from the factory, different climate, etc. could be causing this?

ALL the instruments?I see it difficult, in a shop there was the technician who told me he usually sets them up lowering the bridge because he also finds the instruments they send very difficult to play, he said he inquired Fender and got the answer the factory set up is made in a way that should try to satisfy ALL the tastes of potential buyers, from shredders to country players, with the result, in his opinion, that nobody is really satisfied....

I've seen another thread about set up professionally the newer instruments...for me it's a must, not just for Fender BUT in particular with Fender.

Coming back IT: about the guitar, the description says the body is alder, but I can see the figure on the wood under the white blonde finish...it seems ash to me...am I wrong?Never seen figured alder so far.

Have a look at this guitar on ebay:
