I own an old 50's Stratocaster, where in northern California do you take it for a check/set up and professional appraisel.

Yeah, no kidding. The answer is different depending on whether we are talking Marin County, San Jose, Tracy, or Chico ...

I've used the first two on the list and have been happy with them.

Yes, those are all good suggestions. The Pacifica choice is probably the closest to you. Bananas is easily the farthest (and most expensive if using the GG bridge). I did not know Bananas was still around. We used to play gear in there alot "back in the day". Great memories ...

Yep.....bananas is still around and actually a very nice music shop. I took my '72 Thinline Telecaster there for a complete setup. They did a fine job. It's actually a Fender service center. I wouldn't hesitate to take a guitar back to that luthier.

At the above Berkeley shop I listed, I had them dress my frets and do a complete setup. I was very pleased with them also. I'm now debating taking a guitar for new frets to the Berkeley store.

The San Francisco shop listed.......I visited them, but have not given them a guitar for work. I've heard it recommended by a number of people, but it's in a back alleyway, kinda reminded me of walking through a Chinatown ally in a Hollywood movie. I had to knock on a steel door (kind of like a speakeasy) to get admittance. Sort of an industrial old warehouse looking place. Once inside....all kinds of guitars and amps in for service. The people were friendly, but then again......I've never had them do any work, so I can't speak to that.
