I used to be a great D'Addario fan, but...

I live in Venice, in the middle of a swamp for those who don't know, and here relative humidity reaches easily 80-90%. After a few days strings are irrimediably corroded and dull.

I found my peace of mind with the Elixirs, they costs three times a normal set of strings, but they last FRESH for at least 2-3 months of daily playing.

The only downside is the fragility of the unwound strings, it's already the second high E I've to change in a couple of months...

The GC near me ran out of the Fender strings, so I tried a set of Ernie Ball Super Slinky's (9-42). They sounded way more balanced comparing the wound strings to the unwound strings than any strings I have tried before (except for strings with a wound G).

In reading the specs, I noticed that the unwound strings are made of tin plated high carbon steel instead of plain steel. I guess this gives them a more balanced tone between the wound and unwound strings.

I prefer the balance of the strings with a wound G, but did not like that I could not bend the G string. Now that I have discovered these strings, I have much better balance, and can bend the G string.

Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just hearing things?

I've been using Ernie Ball Super Slinky's (9-42) since the late 60s. I guess that makes my answer a definite yes.

I have been playing with super slinky's for a few years but only because I hVe to pick something and never really noticed much difference.
