Hi,
Going to Guitar Center tomorrow, I want to play these two guitars. Im gassen for surf green with a maple neck. The classic series 50s, and the
Vintage 57, seem to be the only two that fit this bill. Here is the web link to a comparision. Is the difference in price, really worth it? I will compare them myself, but I would value any opinions you folks might have... Thanks and heres the link...

Bill I guess it depends on what you really want and how much you want to spend. One is about twice the amount of the other(if I'm looking at the right ones) They are both great classy guitars. Let us know what you decide with pictures! 8)

Do they both come in your surf green?

I won't go out and say a 57 Vintage is worth 2x that of a classic 50s, but I will say opting for the 57 vintage will get you a tweed hardshell case, nitro finish, American vintage pickups, one-piece neck, and it's made in the USA (Which really doesn't matter save for resale value but I'll say it anyway.) I think you would be satisfied no matter which way you go, but if you're only not getting the 57 Vintage based on price, you should see if you can score one used. I found mine for $1200 at my local shop (Dentist bought as his first instrument but never had the time ^^)

"Hop" hit it. For a 2x price difference that '57 better have a pound and a half of MoJo in that hardshell case.

Good luck,

Nice, very Nice!... I guess that price isnt the issue with me, you may be 100% right about the resale value... My gas is stronger, um thanks :)

Hi Bill, the Classic seems to be a sweet deal, but if you prefer the Holy Grail you have to go Vintage. Do any of these guitars fill some sort of gap in your arsenal? Take the one that will be unique amongst the others. Have a great weekend and let us know about your choice. :)

Hi Bill I noticed one big difference in that the 57 has a 3 way pup switch whereas the cheaper 50s has a 5 way.I have guitars with both and I must say that if buying a new guitar I'd get the 5 way as the 3 way is a devil to set between pups on the fly like in a live situation and impossible during a song. All in all they're both lovely guitars but I'd go the cheaper route for the practicality of the 5 way.

Hi Bill: I guess if the cash wasn't an issue I'd go with the MIA 57 RI.

But I'll say this. A few years ago I looked at a few Classic '50s in the shops and was not entirely satisfied with the fit and finish of any of them. Tiny, nit-picky stuff to be sure, but...

However, recently I was eyeing that model over again and on all of several examples I looked at I could find nothing whatsoever to fault. Very nicely turned out indeed, and a snip at the price.

Just my unscientific straw poll, but perhaps QC has really improved significantly in the Mexican plant over those few years...?

Cheers - C
