What's your string height from the top of the 17th fret to the bottom of the strings?

Here's an article that may help:

http://www.helium.com/items/1814457-how ... om-buzzing

If you've already adjusted the string height (action) and you are still getting buzz, then you should take it to your local shop for them to assess it...

You didn't mention what the usual set up things are. That probably means something different to each person you speak to. One person's set up is another person's tweak.

Since you have been given advice on string height I would add that you need to check your relief. That is the straightness (or lack thereof) of your neck. This is adjusted by the truss rod adjustment screw.

But before you go through all of this yourself, the big thing I noticed is that you said you bought your new Strat at GC. That guitar probably was played by a hundred kids playing Smoke on The Water and should never have left the store in the buzzing condition you stated. I know that you were probably anxious to get her home but now that your good an anoyed at the extra noises your new guitar makes that you don't want it to make, I'd take it right back there and have them send it to their set up guy and get it done correctly. Here in the Chicago area, they have the set up guys right in the store. Otherwise they usually will send it to their local shop and have it back or they have a specific day where their set up guy comes to the store and you can wait to have it done.

This is the one major difference between buying a Strat at GC or SA as opposed to a small specialty shop that probaby has more professional people with a keener interest in selling a properly set up guitar. Now I am sure we all have bought that smokin deal at GC one time or another so before everyone starts writing about how great their GC guitar is, the point is that Sarge here has one that is not right to his liking. I'd have them make it right just in case there is something greater wrong there like unlevel frets, warped neck, broken truss rod, etc. Cuz if you break that truss rod then GC will probably not help you.

A little buzz can be cool. I call it the Fender growl. However to much can be simply annoying.
