Hi guys, I was looking around at different things trying to get my action lower. I bought the radius block, got a new steel block, levelled frets etc and set trem floating. Then on one vid I saw on youtube showed a tech guy with his strat and the trem screws were right up to the body, so, my question is what should be the distance of the screw plate from the body? Leo's original diagram does not show any spec as far as I can see and my hw1 came about 1.5 inches away from the body. So why has this guy screwed them right up to the body? What distance is recommended or do you guys use? Thanks
Mark. :D

This distance will vary from guitar to guitar. The number of springs, and string gauge (string tension) play a role in the height of the back of the bridge. Typically you want the back of the bridge set at 1/8 inch. If you are using 5 springs and 12 gauge strings the distance will be different than if you are using 3 springs and 9 gauge strings.

There is no one answer. It depends on:
String guage
Number of trem springs
Whether you want the trem to float or not

Check this out http://www.fender.com/support/stratocas ... _guide.php

The guy that screwed the trem claw close to the body probably didn't want his bridge to float and had less than 5 springs installed. Forget about measuring the distance of the trem claw from the body. A good set up depends on the distance of the back of the bridge from the body, anywhere between resting on the body or up to 1/8" for floating per Fender's specs. Getting to that point will have the trem claw screwed in or out depending on all of the variables I listed above.

edit: Chet and I must have been typing at the same time. He beat me to it!

ok, no probs, my trem is afloat, strings in tune, intonation fine so I will leave it as it is. I have 3 springs and use rotosound 9s by the way.
thanks
