There is a green marker sign in the tremolo cavity of my strat. Exactly it's "J2" and it's located under the springs. Does anyone know what it stand for?

Probably just an inspection mark.

Yeah, i agree with mhainz.

Although you could post pictures if you like, and somebody might be able to offer some more information.

That could be anything. My guess is that it was put there by a previous owner. Normally modern Strats don't have anything written in there. I've seen bar code stickers on the top side of the body routes but nothing is normally there on the painted trem cavity. The last used guitar I bought had the owners last name written in the trem and pickup cavity. I guess his idea was that if it got ripped off then the unknowing thief would not know to look under the hood for markings. That could be the cryptic thing that happened with yours.

or maybe the guitar belonged to John 5's younger brother.....

Some of us have numbers written on the body in the trem cavity, mine is definitely from the factory because I bought the guitar new.
Any clues?

Here's the pic. I bought the guitar new, so the sign is from the factory.
Since this Strat (Highway One first series) is a 2002 one and this model was introduced in July of the same year, I was wondering if "J2" could be intended as a month and year production reference.

Hmm, good theory, but mine says 12, and another guy has a 5 digit number, someone else has 10.
Wot's it all mean?

yep, of all the possible explanations that's got to be the most likely.
Makes me wonder what they've written inside my f-hole Gibson... gonna have to get the torch and a dentist's mirror....

While most marks are meaningless inspection notes not all of them are. In some email correspondance John Cruz told me that he wrote something special in the trem cavities of the Strats he was building one day in rememberance of one of the greats.

Sure enough mine says 52... maybe that J was meant to be a 5?

still don't know what it means, does 52 have any more meaning to anybody?
