Never tried the Clapton pedal, but the Digitech Bad Monkey is a great pedal!

I am15 and last year as a book report i read claapton cause hes my favorite guitarist. my teacher made us presnt as if we were the person the biogrophy was about so i was clapton i played snippets from cocaine and sunshine of your love. I would have rather played layla or tears in heaven because the pedal has a setting were your guitar can sound acoustic. but i had little time to play in school so those were the shortest easiest songs

School? Better question is where can I find parents like this:

"Mom....Dad...I have a report about Eric Clapton due on Tuesday. Can you take me down and get me a guitar and Eric Clapton pedal so I can make a good grade on the report, please"

"Why sure son, get you sneakers and I will even let you drive to the guitar store"

Next week I would be like:

"Mom...Dad...I have a report due on the advances of tube technology in the amplifier industry. Can you take me down and get me a Fender Blues Junior?"

Who cares if I am 40 and not in school anymore. Lately I have been wanting for the father of the "Things My Dad Says" twitter account to adopt me. I may have to rethink my strategy.

within the last 2 days I have been at the Guitar shop checking out some Digitech Stomp boxes...I have always been a Boss fan...

Well after playing the Drive Tone, the Bad Monkey and finally the Screamin Blues pedal.

I walked out of the shop with the Screamin blues pedal.

At the shop when I tested the pedals, I used my strat loaded with Genuine Custom Shop Texas Specials.

This pedal is just damn awesome. I am a big fan of Buddy Guy and always aspire to try and get near his sound. Well after the Ibanez ts9, Boss ds2 and other amp distortions....this pedal does it for me...

Digitech Screamin blues.

I don't use pedals much at all anymore except at times an Ibanez tube screamer, but until recently I didn't even know about the Clapton pedal, and I would like to find one,but I'll bet they're hard to find now except on ePay...
they're not available in stores anymore, right?

The acoustic Martin similater and Leslie speaker tones were worth the price of the pedal alone. It is an amazing pedal and one of my favorites along with the Hendrix Digitech which is even better. The only other pedals I own are a Moreley Wah, Boss DD2 and and Ibanez TS808 and with what I can pull out of the Clapton and Hendrix pedals I doubt I ever have to buy another one. A few tweaks here or there and you can mold some wild original sounds. Both get 5 stars from me.

Yes, I have the pedal. Bought it on a whim at the full price.. should have waited a few months..

It's pretty good all in all. You can use it as an OD/Booster on a just breaking up amp, but to get the best out of it, you really need to plug it into a clean (pref valve) amp. This way the models are all heard properly. To use in the heat of live battle, you therefore need an amp with plenty of clean headroom.

One thing I don't like, is the fact that whoever modelled the sounds had a strange idea about treble. It can be overwhelmingly bright even at just 12 o'clock on the knob. Obviously you can adjust the EQ on the amp to compensate, though I prefer to turn the treble knob down on the pedal. Unfortunately, not every on-board model has an EQ possibility. You can't 'step thru' the models either, so it wouldn't be your only live pedal. As you change from model to model, you need to tweak each one to get it sounding at its best.

As for fave models, I love the Crossroads & Layla patches, but the Woman Tone is superb. The cleaner ones are less convincing to me, and the acoustic simulator is really odd indeed - it sounds like an indifferently piezo amplified acoustic rather than a traditional acoustic tone - but perhaps that was the intention.

Nothing in the manual about single coil or humbucker pickups, but the sound manipulation is so extreme, it doesn't really matter what guitar you use. You won't hear anything of the guitar's real tone through this pedal. (So saying that, my preference when using it is for a Strat).

There have been a few pedals in this range - May, Hendrix, Clapton etc - but having finally got my head around Jeff Beck after all these years (Live at Ronnie Scott's is just brain melting stuff) I'd like to see a Jeff Beck model for some instant press & go Beck tones..

Well I just tried one a few months ago at Guitar Center and I didn't really care for it myself -BUT- I have to add that I really think that the choice of a pedal like this really tends to depend on your amp and the rest of your rig. The demo pedal they had setup at GC was thru some stupid little amp built in to the display...through that particular amp I thought the Boss Blues Driver was probably the best sounding distortion there.

Personally I've used quite a few distortions over the years with various rigs...I'm currently using a Boss DS-1 with my Burgera V22 and I'm pretty happy with the sound (although the DS-1 sounds like CRAP through my Fender Princeton...haven't tried it on the Lab yet). My favorite pedals however are the old EH Big Muff series and my old Ross "Distortion". Between the two, I prefer the Ross...the Muff sounds great but there's no way to control the amount of distortion...it's just flat out "cranked" and I don't need -that- much distortion all the time. My Ross however has level and distortion controls (no "tone" control which I like). What's more is I just discovered that the Ross uses the same chip as some of the "classic" pedals such as the TS9 and TS-808...which could be one of the reasons I like it so much :-)

Honestly, I wouldn't really worry about whether other folks like your pedal or not (well, accept for your audience maybe)...if you like it, that's really the only thing that matters.

Peace,
Jim
