>A '62 RI would have a White/Black/White pickguard with the screwhole half way between the neck and middle pickups<

If I end up buying this guitar I would change the pickguard to black (ala Gilmour style)...

Got another photo:

this proves it is NOT a '62 reissue, not with Gotoh machineheads!
So it must have a '62 body but the neck is different?

So is it a '62 body or just a complete stock standard '88 MIJ Strat?

TO me it looks like a standard strat that someone put a 8 hole '57 type pickguard on.

They probably said it's a 62 RI because the code on the neck pocket and the maybe the code on the neck says something like st62 or something similar.

I have a 87 MIJ strat and the body shape and the rosewood slab neck are pretty much the same as a 62 and has the st-62 markings, it's not a 62 ri. I think they bodies and necks being made at that time were just about the same, but the RI would have different electronics and vintage style tuners. And the standards would have maybe a vintage style bridge, or a system 1 bridge, and regular tuners.

Yeah looks like a nice guitar, but I think $600 is a little much. And I bet if you took off the pickguard, you would see extra holes where the 11 hole pickguard used to be on it. And yeah a Japanese pickguard has the holes lined up a little different than MIA and MIM strats, the one screw is between the neck and middle pickup.

Also that LBP 62 reissue is really nice. Someone on the local craigslist had a MIM like that for $500. I don't know if that's a good price for a mexican made one though, so I didn't call on it. I think I would like to hold out for a MIJ or MIA one.

At that time the MIJ Standards were put together with what ever parts were in the bins on that day. That pickguard could have been what was in the bin that day.

Could be, but doesn't look original to me.
