My personal opinion is that it is not a '62 RI. The headstock looks like a Standard and the pickgaurd is wrong for a '62.
The serial number comes up as an 86-87, but I bet if you removed the neck it would have an early '88 date.

This is my own personal opinion, and I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

A Contemporary Strat would have the headstock painted the same color (or Black) as the body.

BTW why are certain years released as re-issues and why other years they are not? And why '62?

In my opinion it is still a very nice looking guitar. If it plays and sounds good it would be a keeper. Although $600.00 for a right handed '80's MIJ Standard Strat seems a little high. $400.00-450.00 would be a good offer.

Stratocaster Re-Issues are '54, '57, '62, '68, and '72. Changes were made in Stratocasters those years.

It does sound good to play...if its not a '62 reissue then, does it mean, if you are right CA that its a '88 Standard Strat?

That is my guess. Like I said, the headstock and pickguard are wrong for it to be a '62RI.

pardon my ignorance, so if that is correct, are you saying someone has replaced the headstock (which means obviously the neck as well?) from another guitar?

My fault, I was thinking just a Standard strat, not contemporary.

This is a Standard headstock. Look at the decals, string trees and tuners. The neck adjustment may be on either end of the neck for standards so just ignore that.

Now look at the headstock on a '62RI

Thanks for that, I can see it now. So what about the body, is it '62 reissue? Or is the guitar actually nothing but a Standard 1986 Strat?

Hi, Without seeing the headstock I can tell you that it had a i ply pickgaurd with 8 hole configuration so most likely a 57 reissue. It should have a more chunky neck than a 62 with a light V shape by the nut....

Probably just a '88 Standard.

A '62 RI would have a White/Black/White pickguard with the screwhole half way between the neck and middle pickups.

A '57 RI would have a Maple Fretboard.
