Hi,
My apologies if this site has information on my question, I have tried finding info but have not be able to...I am looking at buying a used 1986 reissue of a Fender Strat MIJ from a local music store. Questions is:
1) Are MIJ Fender good and how do they compare ot MIM or USA made Fenders?
2) What sort of market value does this guitar have. The guitar has a price is $600 US, is this a good price?
Thanking you.

What model Re-Issue?

1) In my personal opinion mid 80's MIJ's are excellent guitars. (I have 3).

2) Depends on the condition of the guitar. Mine are left handed and ranged in price from $300.00 to $700.00

I agree with Chet and also own three.lol MIJ Fenders are great guitars and the ones from the 80s rival just about anything the US was producing at the time.

Thanks CA feathers. Reading the info on '62 reissue it states the following:

'one single butterfly string guide.'

The guitar I looked at had two string guides and they seemed a diiferent type

It also mentions 'the middle pickguard screw being between middle and neck PU.'

The guitar I looked at had the middle screw very close to middle PU screw.

So does this mean its not an authentic '62 Reissue? or that it may have been modified?

Yes, i agree, these are great guitars if they set up right. I have owned a few! LOL! Here is a picture of my Lake Placid Blue 62 Reissue:

I have owned several in the Foto Flame models as well. Nice playing guitars. In fact, the new Fender USA management guys "almost cried" when they traveled to Japan and saw the quality. At that time, Fender USA was still trying to get back up on its feet after the CBS buyout, as USA quality under CBS ownership let their standards really slip.

There is a little history about them here: http://xhefriguitars.com/page9.html

It sounds like it may not be a '62RI. Hard to tell without pics.

That website I sent the link has info on other '80's MIJ models too.

Ok, here is the photo link:

http://s834.photobucket.com/albums/zz26 ... eissue.jpg

So is it authentic '62 reissue?

Also what type of PUs came on these?

And with reissues why are there only certain years re-issued?

Is that the only pic you got? Need to see the back, the headstock front and back. If you can get it the serial number.

I have several MIJ and they are great, BUT for $600 you are getting pretty close to the price range of a decent newer MIA strat or higher end MIM or MIK (ash lite) with some change to spare.

On ebay, you can sometimes find a MIK Ash Lite with soft V neck and fine quality (except for possibly electronics) for under $400.

Likewise, you can find very clean MIM Vintage Player Deluxe for about $400 or a little more.

Not knocking MIJ, but there are other alternatives that I think are just as good
