My first guitars (30+ years ago) were absolutely horrible. So bad in fact that I sold them all when I was 16 to buy my first car and I did not play again until I was 35. At 35 I bought my first “real” guitar which was a brand new Strat Plus that I played for 11 years.

Anyhow, in my early teens I had some junky $10 Harmony acoustic that my mom bought at a local dime store. I had a Lyle hollow body that was almost as big as me (or so it seemed) and it sounded OK, but the strings were so high off the fret board my tiny fingers could hardly press them down. My favorite was a nameless black Tele clone that had a nice flat neck, low action, but sounded like crap. It was one my uncle picked up somewhere but he never played.

My first amp was a little Silvertone transistor amp with an 8” speaker. Can you say “distortion????” After I blew that up, I convinced my dad to buy me a used Fender Twin Reverb that I found at a local guitar store…and believe it or not a Fender Blender since the Twin I had only 2 clean channels and no master volume. Too bad I don’t have the Twin and Blender any more!!!

my first guitar was one of those 3/4 size squire strats. I was in like grade four when i bought it. I used to bring it to school, and everyone treated me like a rockstar!

A couple of weeks ago my wife found an old picture of my mom and me on x-mas morning oh maybe 30+ years ago. It shows us next to the tree and me sitting with an acoustic.

I have to scan it and post a link of it, way cool. Brought back some good memories, thanks for a great topic.

That would be cool to see.

All the pics of me in my early days have been destroyed.
