Couple of months ago I purchased a complete set of Noiseless pickups with Pots NIB on Ebay for my 91 MIM strat. Not till recently that I decided to start the change over and discovered that there are 2 250K pots for tone control and 1 500K pot for the volume control. The original hardware in the guitar has 3 250K pots for all controls and so does the listing in the parts fender parts listing Online.
Was there a mistake in the shipping department or is the 500K the recommended pot for the volume control?

I would recommend checking with Fender on this. I don't know which set of Noiseless pickups you bought but I know that my Vintage Noiseless pickups actually came with 1 meg ohm pots...and those pups just don't sound right without them. I had originally tried wiring them to the 250's on my '96 MIM and blah...just nasty sounding. I put the 1 meg's in and she sounded pretty sweet (and those pickups have since migrated to my '85 Squier MIJ).

Yea, it's possible that they could be mis-boxed or that perhaps the seller swapped something out but if they were in fact NIB, then you probably have the pots you're supposed to use. Either way again I would check with Fender just to make sure.

Peace,
Jim

Don't be too surprised if Fender can't even tell you. They have changed their minds on this many times over the years. The Vintage Noiseless pickups are just very fussy and they are hard to dial-in as a result. They sure do fine with the Clapton mid-boost though. I never really got mine to sound acceptable to me, but they were closest with all 500k pots. With 1 meg pots they were just too edgy and shrill. With 250k pots they were dull and lifeless.

IMHO.

500 K pots are normally used on Humbuckers. Les Pauls would use the 500K. You can use any of the pots and each one will offer a different quality of tone. That said it depends on what sounds good to your ears. Normally three singles use 250K pots. My pre-wired Lace Sensor set ups come with 250K pots. Keep in mind that the size of the cap(s) used in the assembly has as much to do with tone as the pots.
