I posted a question about MIM strat pups on this thread http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... highlight=

The consensus was (except for one respondent) that the MIM strat pups were consistently the same since 1990 till now. I am not sure about that. I measured the pups in my 2000 MIM Strat and they are 7.4K - 7.7K. I just bought some 2007 MIM Strat pups and they measure 6.4k - 6.8k. This is a rather radical difference. Anyone know what could be going on. Its a bummer for me because I am trying to get some pups that sound like the ones in my 2000 Strat. I can guarantee these 2007 ones will be thin sounding.

Actually, 7.4 through 7.7K is quite atypical for 'normal' Strat pickup windings. Even 6.4 through 6.8K is still somewhat elevated. Typically, they should be in the higher 5K to at the most, 6.2K range.

I actually got my measurements on the 2000 MIM Strat a bit wrong. The DCR in K ohms is
B= 6.9
M=6.5
N=7.4

So, except for the Neck pup, this is close to the other pickups. These pups have a higher output than most Alnico pups I have put them up against so you may be correct that they are a bit overwound. I find that a bit odd given that machines do the winding now and are supposed to be very consistent. They are also thicker sounding but not to the point of being muddy. As I elaborated in an earlier thread, that suits my style just fine.

Aren't the pups in Jimmy Vaughn Strats Tex-Mex therefore different from regular MIM Strats?They certainly sound fuller.

The Deluxe Players and Milonga Strats had Vintage Noiseless pickups.

The Milonga Stratocaster has been discontinued a couple of years ago. This was a limited-edition alder-bodied Mexico Classic '60s reissue with Noiseless pickups, gold hardware, white shell pickguard, rosewood fingerboard and an Olympic White finish.

Only 250 pieces were made in 2006.

I've heard the older MIM pups had a higher output. The 90's MIM strats are worth more because the PUP's were so much better then what Fender uses today. Unless of course you have a Roadhouse Strat! :D

Hi guys and ladies! I put a set of 2000 MIM pickups in my '07 HWY 1 and man do they make it sound awesome. I had some Duncan SSL-1's in it and they just never grew on me but what a difference the swap made!

I just found this thread after searching for answers about a new JB Custom Shop I just bought vs a 2000 MIM I own.

Yeah, I can confirm....the late 90s-2000 MIMs had some awesome sounding fat,bright, responsive pickups in them. I picked my MIM at the time over an American. I would actually have paid more for the MIMs of the period. Ensanada was manufacturing some great vintage sounding guitars back then.
