Okay, I have my problem solved regarding what kind of Strat I own.
As it turns out I was wrong about the ceramic PUs they are indeed Alnico. So what I have is a Classic 60's Stratocaster and some of you more with it Strat enthusiests picked up on that rather early so many thanks and my apologies for making more about the guitar than was necessary.

Anyway what I need next is a guitar with Humbuckers and what I'm looking for is somewhat of a bark in the tone when you slap the strings and do a little wrangleing.

My first guitar was a LP Custom which got ripped before I was really able to get into it, my second is a G&L now I have a Strat and those I'm pretty happy with.

Any suggestions please jump in and all opinions are welcome. Thanks

Best suggestion I can give you is to go to your local music store(s) and try some out.

Define Bark so I know what your after.

Generally humbuckers give you a more smoothed out sound, so that may not really be what your looking for. I play my Les Paul when I want more of a Santana or Gary Moore sound and my Strat when I want something with more dynamics and bite on the low strings.

...by "bark" I mean some thing that has a responsive sound but with a nice mid character, more than just sizzle and sustain but yet clear enough to have a definitive tone... :o

radarman,
I was in a similar situation and decided to stay Fender. I have an American Strat with Tex-Mex pickups but needed some grungy humbuckers as well. I went with a Custom Telecaster Flame maple top with dual humbuckers (FMT HH). The Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates really scream, and with the coil-tap switch I get the great blues tone out of the neck pickup. I really think it's the "best of both worlds" and the price is pretty good on Ebay!

Hope this helps,
Bob

Thanks for responding Bob.
I just looked that one up in the produts section and it looks like it is worth trying out.
This weekend I was able to play a Carvin Custom Shop model and was quite surprised by it. Very attractive and clean features but not consistant from one guitar to another and I'm not sure why that is but one of the guitars that I tried was tight and right. Still a bit pricey.

The price is the main reason I'd get that tele. They normally go for around $400.00 on Ebay and are around $600 new. Plus, I like the thinner set-neck for playing lead...the neck is FAST! People aren't used to sseing that beautiful red translucent flame-maple which looks like its something right out of the custom shop.

I have the Custom Tele Flame top HH. I put a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and it sounds great (the guitar came with a Fender Atomic). It feels and sounds great. Definitely growls and bites. I really like this guitar.

The Carvins differed from guitar to guitar most likely bescause they are configured differently. Different woods, tops, neck material, etc.. You can custom order them with many different options and colors. I'll be getting a strat-like one because they offer a 14" radius fretboard. The neck feels very close to my Tele, which has a 15.25" radius. My fingers like flatter fretboards. I'll soon have two great sounding guitars that feel similar.
