To Andy: still, we have plenty of decent bevvies of our own, don't we? I'm down in the South-West right this minute: here's a few from the local area:

Do you spot the bottle of Old Moggie in that last photo? That belongs over on your thread, Andy!

Carry on, mate. Good work - and a great thread! :D

Cheers - C

+1 This is a great thread! Lov'in it!

Yeah we do have some great breweries. I'm Lucky as the Harvey's Brewery is in Lewis which is just round the corner.

 Old Moggie! Doesn't sound very tasty does it! But then neither does Bishops Finger (which is actually very drink-able) :D

Ooooh, I spy a strat with Lace pups (maybe) in the back there......

I'm starting to get a bit worried that the copious amounts of beer being drunk during these builds might lead to an actual human body, rather than a guitar body, getting a chunk ripped out by a router. Safety first people.

On the other hand, love to see the selection of ales you're all drinking out there. Makes me want to start another build... and another brew ;)

Oops!! Oh well, at least he was so drunk he couldn't feel his little router injury. (Till later...)

Oh, OK. ...Done.

Also: what a dirty thumb nail in the photo. "Dude, take more care with your manicure. Uh. Too late..."

Still, on the plus side... Nope, I can't think of a plus side.

On closer inspection, I rekon he'd still be able to hold a pick....just so no biggy! :D

Unless he's a lefty....Eeek!

Anyway, How's the build going Kong?

Okay, a little more progress has been made so I thought I would share. I filled in the over-sized trem-hole with a block of wood. The glue has cured so today I decided to drill the holes for the vintage style trem. I also cut the hole for the block and while it is not perfect, it is serviceable.

I also tried to use Ninja's filler process on the back of the guitar and after about 4 passes, it still looks a little rough. This may be as good as I can get it.

I fitted the tremolo bridge and the pick-guard and everything seems to be in order. I had a junk neck laying around and that was how I was able to accurately measure for placing the bridge.

Here are the pics. Comments are welcome as always. I think it may be about ready to begin the finish process. I know that I am going to use sanding sealer. Would anyone recommend grain filler before I do the sanding sealer?

It looks awesome. Most of your "flaws" seem to be covered up. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Quick update today. I received my primer and sherwood green paint from Re-ranch Friday. Today I shot a coat of primer, sanded it with 320 after about 2 hours and shot another coat. I had a few blobs of paint fly out of the spray can onto the body, but I'm not too concerned as they'll sand right out. I'll need to watch for that buildup around the nozzle when I spray the color coat. After I sand the 2nd coat I'll determine if a 3rd or 4th coat of primer is needed before I shoot the color coat. I think it is starting to look like a strat. Here's a couple of pics.

Sweet!

It's covered the trem fill a treat! Nice job!

If the spray can tip starts to get "blobby" hold the can upside down and give a couple of squirts. That should clear the cap.

Well, I'll run with that (you knew I would! ).

I spend half my time in the south west of my country at a rural location on the edge of Dartmoor (of Sherlock Holmes / Hound of the Baskervilles fame). Sometimes I like to stroll up to this spot to watch the sunset, perhaps with something moody on the iPod:

Turning in the other direction the moors stretch away into the distance:

Not the Himalayas or Appalachians or any such. But fairly pretty of a warm summer's evening.

I'm down there this weekend as it happens. I'll see if I can get a nice pic or two...

Here are a few pics from the Palisades hike on 6/6. This was the most demanding physical test I've had in quite a long time. The hike was about a 4 mile loop with a 500' drop to start and a steep 500' climb to finish. It was hotter than heck out and I left the water in the car. It took about 2.5 hours to get to where you start the ascent back up the cliff and I was spent. Thank god for the torrential downpour that came along and gave me my 2nd wind.

A nice shot of the cliff-side.

Thanks Andy,

I'm extremely happy with the results so far ... definitely not bad for a first try! You can still see the repair faintly under the primer but I think it is because the repair wood was a lighter color.

hey Kong, looking good.

When I spray with rattle cans, I like to keep a rag in my off hand. Give the nozzle a wipe every so often. Like Andy said you can tip the can upside down to clear too.

If you find you are getting spitting, you can warm the cans in a tub of hot water, too.

watch your humidity too, you definitely don't want to spray if its above 65 or 70%.

This project is really coming together!!

Thanks Twelvebar - More great advice! I was thinking of shooting the color today, but it is very humid and I'm doing all my spraying outdoors. We're supposed to get a real nice day on Tuesday with 47% humidity. I'll hold off til then.

When I shot the primer, I was holding the guitar in one hand and spraying with the other, which can be somewhat unwieldy. For the color, I'll be laying the guitar flat with blocks in the cavities so I'll be able to wipe the nozzle with a rag as you suggested.

I can't wait to get the finish on this thing. When I'm waiting for the lacquer to cure, I'll wire up the pickups an pots. I'm also still searching for a neck, I'm probably going with Warmoth, but I would not mind a MIM 60s neck either. I keep checking craigslist as Warmoth necks come up every once in a while, but I'll bite the bullet and buy a new one if I can't find a deal.

And good landscape too. Keep that heart a-pounding!

Continuing to watch with interest - all aspects of this thread! 8)

And welcome to the Forum Mrs-to-be Kong. :D
