Hi Kong: knockout job, fella! Big, big high fives to ya! 8)

Gotta say, I have so much respect for this whole thread. People may not be aware quite how dubious Mr Kong was about tackling this thing back at the start. But he knuckled down and had at it, conquered the problems when they came along - and look what he's ended up with. Flippin' excellent! And some may not realise that metallic paint is more difficult to lay successfully than ordinary. Yet look how well it's gone on! Major kudos.

I bet this guitar is going to have a special place in your heart for ever more. And the finish date will be no small part of that. I'd want to put a celebratory decal on the back of the headstock to mark that vital event - why not?

Regarding the neck shim: well, what's the problem? If it needs a shim then go to: world's full of shimmed Strats that play beautifully. No worries.

...There's still a bit of me that's wondering how the heck any of this is happening on your honeymoon, but hey, each to their own. Mrs Kong is quietly storing up her marital credit account, no doubt... :D

Best to you both - C

Yeah looked like it got off to a little bit off a rough start, but it turned out great. Love the color of the body, and the tint on the neck.

Excellent - really nice..

I admit to shuddering a bit when you first proposed a green colour, but I have to say it looks really classy.

Just one thing: LOGO!!

Can't be doing with nude headstocks. As Ceri suggested, the wedding and the guitar seem to have become morphed into one. So something that celebrates both would seem to be in order..

Thanks again to all for the nice compliments on the guitar as well as all the Congrats on the wedding. We had an amazing day by the way. We had the whole shebang outside under a giant tent. It was hotter than heck, but we had advised our guests to wear shorts and the like, and thankfully there was a pretty steady breeze and a LOT of cold beverages.

We received a ton of compliments on our ceremony as well. It was very personal and even featured a toast with some beer (Smithwick's to be exact). It was a Celtic touch, the toast that is, The ceremony was called Anam Cara or Soul Friend.

The celebrant suggested I fill the cup prior to the ceremony, but since it was the hottest day (ever, anywhere), and being a fan of cold beer, I had a cooler hid up by a small table where we had our ceremony. When it came time for our toast, I just pulled out a bottle and poured the beer into the Celtic loving cup, which brought the house down. We had our toast, she drank first, then I drained the cup, not remembering we were supposed to toast twice more, no problem, thank God for the stashed cooler. I poured some more and we were on our way! And the second time I was sure save a little for her to finish the cup off!

So thanks again from Hank and Stacy.

I'll come up with some idea to commemorate the date on the back of the headstock. Since the project was born of a flood from Hurricane Floyd, for the front of the headstock I was thinking of something like this:

Kong,
First, congrats on the wedding day, the cooler was a stroke of genius. Second, the guitar is indeed a thing of beauty, nicely done sir.
The logo you designed might also look good on a custom neck plate, leaving the headstock open for "KONG'S KING".

Just a thought,

Kong,

First let me congratulate you on your wedding. Second, nice work on the guitar. Nice color. I remember when you started.

Hi guys,

Not being a stranger, just catching my breath from a whirlwind 3 weeks! I'm glad he finally got the guitar done, and I really don't mind that he took this week to do it. Like Ceri said, I'm storing it up in my account  But seriously, part of a marriage is supporting one another and making sacrifices every now and again, so it's all good. He's talking about the matching Tele already. As long as he doesn't take a hammer to it first!

I've been busy organizing my Washington photos while he's been sanding buffing and polishing away. Here are a few of my favorites:

Me@Johnston Ridge Observatory, Mt. St. Helens

We were about 5 miles from the volcano, I just wanted to run for the crater!

Pillow basalts that formed below sea level

Peridotite, mantle material that was uplifted to the surface

The Grand Coulee Dam

That's a summary of ~400 pics that I made Kong flip through the night I got home  I took a ton of pics at Mt. St. Helens because it's my obsession. It's the first news story I remember as a kid, and I've wanted to see it ever since. It only took 30 yrs!

Regarding the guitar, I personally think he did a fantastic job, not just because he's my husband, but because he really took his time and was super patient and careful. If he didn't know, he asked questions. Like I've said before, I'm not a guitar girl myself (only by marriage), but I would encourage anyone who really wants to do a build/repair to give it a try. You never know what you're capable of until you give it a try.

OK, that's what I've been up to while Kong has been pining to finish the guitar. And I promise to keep poking my nose in every now and again. Thanks for the wedding wishes, we're really happy, and we had a great (albeit scorchingly hot) day. The look on my face when Kong chugged the quaich was priceless! I hooked myself a great guy 8) and I'm not ashamed to admit it!

BoK

Congrats on your wedding! may you two have long prosperous years together :)

If you don't mind my asking do you think your warmoth neck is heavier than your std. neck?
Wat kind of nut did you put on?
Wat kind of paint and lacquer did you use?

Thanks for the congrats.

I did not weigh the neck but it did not feel that it weighed much different from other necks I've handled. The nut came pre-installed and is made of corian. The neck came already finished in vintage tint gloss from Warmoth. It really is a quality piece and I would recommend Warmoth to anyone.

In case you mean the lacquer for the body, I used re-ranch white primer, and Sherwood Green metallic. (Just google reranch). For the clear coat I used Deft gloss clear lacquer (4 cans).

Reranch stuff is Nitrocellulose based product.
