Yeah Ceri - apparently just before the ceremony there were some screw issues! I think we need an intervention, or some sort of class at the very least!

One last thing, a tip for you. When ever you screw into hardwood you need to coat the screw threads with wax, bees wax or candle wax will work here, bee's being the your first choice. It will lube the screw as it goes in and will help to avoid broken screws.

I use plain' ol bar soap, just as good as wax IMO and easier to find in a pinch.

I'll keep it short.

Best day ever for me and B.o.K.

Thanks to all for the well wishes. So this is what it feels like to marry the right woman!!

(and for the tips on the screw   )

Kong: you poor, poor SOB... er I mean: Congrats? Uh... yeah! Congrats! ;)

That depends on the soap you use, if you mean Ivory, then your okay, but many soaps these days have ingredients that can cause corrosion.

A candle would be a better choice, even is only a birthday candle.

Okay she's done. I finally got to sanding and polishing on Monday and Tuesday. I'm very happy with the results, but I probably could have done a bit better with both sanding and polishing. I may go back and touch her up in the future, but I'm very satisfied for now. I drilled around the screws on the neck and filled in the holes. For now I'm leaving the 2 missing screws out. I never should have attempted to remove the screws - especially since I did not replace them, but live and learn as they say. Also wondering if I need to install a string tree.

I assembled the guitar and found that I needed to shim the neck. This was a huge disappointment for me and I'll be asking about other options from my fellow forumites. Overall it sounds and plays nice and intonation is dead on. The pickups sound great and the neck feels amazing. It feels so good, I may try another pao ferro fretboard in the future. All in all the results exceeded my expectations and I'm pretty happy considering this is a first time result. I learned a few lessons which will hopefully help things go more smoothly next time around. Here are a few pics showing the progress to completion.

Sorry for the large pics - I'll resize later, just wanted to get the update up.

Alright Kong!!!

What a great save. I knew you could do it.

Looks great, you are a natural, metallic finishes are hard to do and you hit it right out of the park, on your first try!!!

Congratulations on a job well done! 8) 8)

Kong,

That looks Awesome! Totally agree with 12bar, you have achieved greatness on this one! I'm really chuffed for you mate.

You sir, doth Rock! 8)

If you've got staggered tuners you won't need the string trees. Will you be giving us all a little update as to how you intend to deal with the neck shim?

So what’s next? I heard rumours of a matching tele...care to confirm that one!?!

Thanks for sharing the build, and congrats!

Stay Frosty! 8)

Andy

Well done Mr. Kong. The finish looks great. It is a guitar worthy of some serious play time. I'm impressed. :!:

Outstanding! I can only hope my project comes close to looking as sweet as this guitar. Congrats on the nuptials, as well!

It looks simply divine. If it plays, sounds and feels half as good as it looks..you have achieved success. A couple of screw are missing? I didn't notice.

Anyhow..so you tried to dig em out..really no other way. The point is not to be concerned about how to dig em out...the point is not to bust the heads off in the first place.

Overall..WIN !!

Fantastic Mr Kong, and BoK... it's done now, both the wedding and the guitar :)

What are you guys gonna do with yourselves (don't answer that).

But on a more serious note Kong:, KILLER effort on the axe. Sherwood green + mint pick guard come out a TREAT! In regards to sorting out the neck pocket, I believe this topic came up recently in Kozy's build. His fix was to send his body back and get a refund.

Not quite sure how u'd do it now, layers of veneer, a dremel tool? Thats a bit risky cause it's all done by eye,

Maybe a wooden block sander made to fit your neck pocket that happens to be the correct depth of your pocket aswell, so veneer the pocket up to a shallow depth, then you can work the custom sized block sander in and out until the its flush (maybe build a little handle on it).

This is all assuming the Depth of the pocket is wrong.

N e way, my two cents.

I think the best part is it's done and it's your work, congrats again mate :)

Dan

PS Congrats too BoK :p
