That is for a certain member to reveal at a time of his choosing. If you read the previous posts, it's not hard to figure out whose guitar it is, with that info, it might just be possible to find it elsewhere on the web.

I'm still shopping necks. I wanted to start wiring the pickups and pots and much to my dismay, I was shipped pots without any nuts on them!! I ordered the correct nuts from Stewmac and they'll be here in a few days.

I'm putting my plan together for sanding / polishing. I saw a nice tutorial on sanding and polishing on another site. After this thing cures, (it's only been since Sunday 6/19 and it is already driving me crazy!!)

Anyhow here are the steps I was going to use to sand and polish.

Using a bowl of water with some dish detergent. I will soak the sandpaper overnight. I am planning on using the following grits.

800
1000
1500
2000
2500

I'm planning on using small rubber erasers as a sanding block and focusing on the front and back flat areas first. I don't plan on hitting the edges until I get to the higher grit sandpaper as I am afraid of sanding through to the metallic color coat. I have just under 4 cans of clear lacquer on the body and hope it all works out. I will sand each grade of paper at 90 degree angles to the last grade starting with the grain and then across until I'm ready for polishing.

Then I'll use a medium and then a fine polishing compound (probably 3M) with a buffer. Then I'll buff with a clean pad. The guy who used these steps got excellent results. He used an inexpensive Coleman buffer from Walmart.

If anyone has any more tips or comments on these steps, please jump in!

I don't really have much to offer you in the way of tips seeing you are almost done with it. But I can tell you that your project looks very good and I am certain that you have been getting excellent advice.
Great job! :D

*cough* found the aces high strat *cough*
*cough* that thing is freaking bad $@! *cough*

........

*cough* like epically bad $@! ORCRiST, you must be stoked *cough*

Sorry about that interlude. What I am looking forward to is the sparkley amazement of this sherwood green finish matched up to the mint pick gaurd. Do we know if the fretboard is maple or rosewood? (or ebony?)

How long left to wait? like 24 days? DAMN!

Yeah my patience is wearing thin already. For the neck, my first choice is a dark rosewood fretboard, but I may have a great deal on an all maple neck in the offing so we'll see. I'm definitely going with vintage style tuners. I don't know why but I absolutely love the look of those things.

True, vintage style looks the bomb.

But have you thought about seeing if you can find some Mint green coloured pegs for a vintage tuner, something like this:

Image but with the pegs matching your pickguard.

is that even possible?

Probably possible, but not for me, I dig the metal tuner knobs ... except on my ES-339

Is it ready yet?? The closer we get to the 30 day curing period, the closer we get to our wedding. Hmmm, I wonder which he's looking forward to more? That's a rhetorical question LOL

First of all, welcome to the forums BOK and congrats on your upcoming wedding. You are marrying a fine craftsman there.

Kong, this is going to be one heck of a beautiful strat. Then again, I don't think any strat is ugly! :D

It's been a week now...waiting is torture. The finish is darkening a bit and starting to look more like what I expect Sherwood Green to look like. I had to adjust the tint on the picture of the guitar below to make it less blue. All the pics have been coming out bluer than the actual color.

I wired up the pick-guard this morning. I'm a bit sloppy with the solder. I need to work on it. I especially have trouble soldering the grounds to the back of the pots. Anyone have any good tips?

I decided to go with white pickup covers and mint green knobs over the cream covers and knobs shown earlier in the thread. I had to lay the pick-guard over the body to see how it will look and I think it looks killer. Still shopping for a neck but leaning heavily towards Warmoth. Will probably order one on Monday. Might try a Pau Ferro fretboard.

Here's a few pics of my so-so soldering. And the body with the pick-guard on it.

How 'bout this for a neck?
