Lady Kong,

Howdy and welcome to the forum! :D

See if you can get Ceri to tell us how fast he had to swim across that river in order to get to the other side before the timer on his camera ran out

Enjoy!

Welcome to Bride of Kong, I'll try get a link to you for a non adhesive temporary vinyl decal that looks like a giant scratch, that you could safely put on his guitar on day 29, just for fun.

back to business, Kong, you knocked this out of the park, you're going to make people think it's easy to spray metallics!!!

Do you have a neck for it, cus if not that can be the new chapter to occupy us 'til wetsanding time.

o0o0o Twelvebar, that would be the ULTIMATE prank to play on him...he'd have a major heart attack at first, but would then laugh hysterically when he realized it was a joke. Kong loves that kind of stuff.

I really appreciate the warm welcome from all of Kong's forum friends. :D

Oh and Andy asked a good question...Ceri, you do look pretty dry for just swimming across the river...how'd you manage that?

I don't have a neck yet. All of the hardware I showed in earlier pics will be going on.

I'm using an American spaced vintage style trem from Guitar Fetish for the bridge. I'm going with the saddles that came with the bridge, but I may upgrade in the future. For now I want to stick to vintage style.

For the electronics I'm using GFS Premium II Alnico II pickups. I'll wire it up with 250K pots. I'm still up in the air about shielding the cavities with copper tape. I did get an aluminum pickguard shield for under the mint green.

I'm going with the Mint Green pickguard and I also have a 3ply mint green (with black) trem cover that I got from Stewmac. The trem cover did not fit the strat that I originally ordered it for. There was some weird spacing with the holes but I just filled the holes on this body and drilled new holes to match the cover. It lined up very nicely with the bridge block too so I should be able to change strings without taking it off. I'll be using creme knobs and pickup covers that were also pictured earlier in this thread. I'm using regular chrome strap buttons, I think straplocks might look out of place on this thing. And I always use GHS Gilmour (blue set) strings.

I guess that just leaves the neck. I know I want a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. I've been kicking around ideas. I may get a MIM classic 60s neck. I really like that profile and finish and I definitely want vintage style tuners so it would be a good option. I can get my hands on a classic 60s for a decent price. I have another strat that may be sold this week which will fund the neck purchase.

My other idea for the neck is to go to Warmoth. They really have some beautiful stuff on their site and I don't believe I've ever heard anything but praise for their stuff. It may be a little pricier than my 1st option, but also may be well worth it. I could save a few bucks if I finished it myself, but I'm not sure if I want to go that route. I don't know how big a project finishing the neck will be and I think the feel of the neck is very important.

I'm shooting the last coats of clear today. I think that just about covers all the steps / parts that are left for the build ... except.

Is it ready yet
Is it ready yet
Is it ready yet :P :P :P

Oh yeah, I'm going to need some help with the sanding and polishing! Complete instructions on exactly what to do ought to cover it!

PS thanks to all for the nice welcome for future Mrs. Kong!! - (even though worlds may collide as the perceptive Ninjas may have predicted!)

After seeing his latest build, I'm pretty sure he "walked on water" to the other side.

I had a chat with Martian about that. This thread might help

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=38293

I also have a stack of strat wiring diagrams that i've made for various mods (S-1 switching, blend pots, mid boosts, etc). If you need one give me a shout and i'll post it here for you.

Hope this helps

"Ahem" Is it ready yet? :D

Ooo - well if you were going that route, may I just plant this idea in your mind? Howzabout a rosewood fingerboard with white binding round the edge, like on the Eric Johnson Strat? How flippin' '60s cool would that look with your metallic Sherwood Green? Hot damn - I'm drooling at the thought... 8)

I tried. It didn't work.

It almost looks like that photo was taken by someone else, doesn't it? Borrowing my wife's Canon SLR, set to automatic - and he still managed to get about half a dozen versions of that pic out of focus. How, Luke; how...?

Anyway. Carry on Kong. This guitar's gonna be a babe for life - you'll be telling your grandchildren about it!

...Is it nearly ready yet?

Cheers - C

Twelvebar, yes it's nitro, at least I'm 99% sure it is. Thats what I specified him to use. Although, he could be using an alternative, I doubt it. Yep, the Aces High strat (aka the Spitfire strat, aka the Supermarine Stratocaster, lol) it is.

Thank you very much! I've shown Ceri and Nikininja as well and they both demanded that I post a thread here (which I will), but I wanted all the bits back in my possession for final assembly so I can take proper pictures instead of only the 'teaser' ones I have now.

I'm kind of biting my fingernails at the mo' as I'd like it back before I'm off to the Iron Maiden concert in Chicago on the 18th of July. I'm hoping maybe, just maybe, I could get it signed by Dave himself somehow...

/fingers crossed!

Very interesting finish. It has a cool retro look to it. Its going to look great with the mint pickguard! Keep it up, can't wait to see it put together in a few weeks!

Thanks for the welcome John. I was out there a few years back in December and I definitely got snowed on. The trip leader got snowed on last week near Mt. St. Helens. Crazy stuff!!
