manualtrem - I believe that one is a parts guitar. Is there a serial number on it anywhere?

Here's what I'm seeing - it has a 22-fret neck with a big headstock but it doesn't have the walnut plug up at the truss rod adjustment hole - it has black plastic like an MIM Fender. The decal is a complete mess - Fender has never used the vintage-style "spaghetti" Fender logo with the large black "Stratocaster" logo. A USA Strat with the large headstock would also have the modern roller string trees, not the vintage-style butterfly string trees. The tuners appear to be Gotohs, which Fender only used on MIJ/CIJ guitars. The tremolo is definitly not a Fender one either - Fender has never used the block style saddles on a 6-screw trem. Also it just doesn't look like a Fender trem unit; it looks like an inexpensive import unit.

Not sure just what you have, but it isn't a legit Fender.

Yes the input jack is upside down, I can understand the idea but the angle of the jack should be towards your bottom strap peg or at about 90 degree's to where it is at.

Parts guitar it is, that top horn ( one closest to the low E is out of shape or seems a little too long, Gibson Les Paul knobs are not Fender...
That second string tree is installed offset to begin with.
Back neck plate can be bought at GC's for $5
Rear spring plate should not be one rectangular string opening but individual one's.
No serial number anywhere they should be is a large Red Flag.
On the headstock, did you photo shop out some decals..? looks that way...
The bridge to me looks like it came off a Squier...
The pick guard bridge cut out is sloppy, not what you would see from any of the legit Squier products

Speaking of that, measure the thickness of the body...
An MIM is 1"3/4 thick
A Squier is less than 1" 5/8ths
I'm not convinced on those tuners they are definitely aftermarket.

Hope you didn't pay more than $150 - $175 max...for this...

Necks out of alignment too look at the low E , its miles off the pickup pole piece and too far onto the fretboard

It is definitely imo a 'partscaster', and a poor one. Someone was clearly trying to make a bunch of inexpensive parts look like a real Fender.
I hate to say this but as has been said many times before - even in this very thread: you need to post pics BEFORE you buy.

If that guitar was presented to you as a real Fender I would take it back and insist on getting your stuff back.

Craigs'List is OK, but you have to be aware of what you are about to purchase..
Any chance in a refund ?

I agree, Craigslist has nothing to do with this. The buyer has the obligation to make sure what they are buying (or trading for) is what the seller says.
Not to be mean, but if you simply dont research things before you buy, sometimes you get burned whether you bought from CL, eBay, local paper, etc.

It'a a japanese Strat but without close-up in focus photo's, cannot assess it accurately..

My advice would be as always, buy a guitar that you can pick up and play, unless it is from a reputable store. If it used and a private sale then it is even more critical to see play and hear that guitar....Even at a bargain price it will cost plenty to return if it is not what was expected...

Thank you for the advice 53magnatone and thanks for the comment strider I will def go play it and see how it sounds if I decide to go for it but like you say I might be better going to a dealer and seeing what they have then at least I have a bit of comeback I will happily pay that extra cost for the peace of mind. I don't want to get stitched up with a fake so I guess I will just save abit more and go to my local trusted guitar shop.

Thank you all for the advice
