Consistency is the watchword here. I'll admit I've played a good few fenders that were in dire need of a decent volume pot. I've played far more squiers though.

Maybe some of the Fender just have dirty pots? Or maybe Squier really upped the quality of parts they use in the past few years?

I don't know, I don't remember the electronics on my Squier being very high quality. I had some major problem with the input jack, and it had scratchy pots. But that probably had more to do with the fact that I bought it used than the factory quality control.

I had it completely gutted and replaced the pots, the switch and everything. The pickups were switched to Texas Specials and that made the most significant difference of all. So if anyone cracks open my Squier and takes a peek under the pickguard without knowing that they'd be shocked by the cloth wrapped wires and Custom Shop quality electronics.

The American Standard has the Delta Tone system to bypass any filtration of the bridge pickup. This means that there is resistance in the second tone pot at the 10 position. This allows for a more direct presence of the bridge pickup, but means that the pot will not operate as smoothly. The added resistance of the tone pot at 10 is a small price to pay for this sexy feature.

The Squier pots aren't 'heavy duty' made like the CTSs are. Consequently, the Squier stuff is indeed, easier to manipulate as their design is comparatively frail.

Thanks Martian,

So the pots I guess upon first inspection seem better quality but infact they are not? I think I got it, Thanks again.

You are correct, sir! Glad to help.
