I am going to upgrade from a solid state to a tube amp and have my eye on the Vibro-Champ® XD. Give me some feedback and reviews on this one.

I couldnt be happier with mine as a home amp, I've even gigged it too. Plugged the line out into the PA. It ended up being more work than using my usual gig amp though, as its not loud enough even as a monitor for live use. So I had to get a monitor rigged up too that time. The sound was good though.

As a home amp its great, I absolutely love mine. Despite owning 2 JCM marshalls, a nice vintage watkins and until recently a blues jr the VibroChamp is my goto amp. If there are a couple of niggles its that it needs a better or just bigger speaker (much more than a 10" would probably be too much for the amp to keep clarity), and some of the effects aint great. If your after a warm fender type tone with a decent reverb or a touch of delay, its ideal for a home amp.
Eq'ing takes a little getting used to as the middle control seems preset by the amp type and you have to move the bass and treble around that. So your never going to get a bassman with really high upper mids kind of sound out of it, you have to move to a marshall setting and try and get somewhere near on that. I suspect its setup this way as the amp emulation is all on the middle frequencies and preamp gain.

Like I say I ditched my Blues Failiure and couldnt be happier, I couldnt part with this little black box though.

I played on the Vibro-Champ® XD today @ Best Buy and the guys there really recommended it as a good tube home amp. Thanks for the reply -- I may just go get it tomorrow.

The fact that I have owned a good few tube amps (whats a tube? I'm pretty sure their valve amps. We invented the technology after all) and still own valve amps. And have even been given them on the proviso that I only use that brand onstage, gives me the right to completely naysay the above comment.

Whats not valve about it knitgirl? It operates on a valve preamp and a valve power amp. A 6/7watt true classA valve amp needs no more than two valves let alone a 5 watt one. Ok maybe a rectifier valve if you want valve rectification.

What would you recommend as a good valve amp Knitgirl?

Nah thats a rubbish amp, not a patch on a plexi, a evo top or a supergroup100. Their rockin amps, the super reverb is a decent country amp at best.

No corn cob up my arse, just a desire for negative people to not compare a home amp that covers many bases to a stage amp, based on their questionable judgment.

You have shown your ignorance by calling one of the greatest tube amps of all time rubbish.

When did I compare the Vibro "Home Amp" Champ to a stage amp?

You and BigTufGuy asked me what I considered a real tube amp and I said Super Reverb. I made no comparisons to the Vibro "Home Amp" Champ.

The original poster asked for opinions about the Vibro Champ and I gave mine. I don't recall the original poster asking for only positive opinions regarding the Vibro "Home Amp" Champ.
As far as a good tube home amp try the 57 Champ reissue...tone for days, unlike that digital processed Vibro "Home Amp" Champ garbage.

You better check your bottom again because it seems you have more than one corn cobb up there.

Nah, the 57 champ reissue is just a overpriced little practice amp.I mean come on 1800 bucks for a 5 watt amp with one knob? You can get a real champ on ebay for less than that. You cant really gig with it either.

Where do you live that the 57 champ reissue is 1800 bucks? They retail for $999.00 in the U.S. I think you have confused it with the 57 deluxe.

I only mentioned it because nikininja brought up "Home Amps"

Anything under 20watts is a home amp, unless your a recording artist. Then it becomes a recording amp. You can gig with 5 watts, I've done it though I do prefer my 2, jcm800's, as previously stated. The carlsbro evo top hard marginaly more mid punch and was more reliable. I just like matching amps.

Also if you care to take your gaze from your over inflated opinion to the real world that the OP's question expresses their target price point.

Whilst were talking of 5 watt amps do you suppose the 57champ to be the ultimate small amp? Please explain to me your conclusive proof that the digital modelling of the vibrochamp xd adversely affects its tone and how putting some garbage pedal infront of a 51year old P2P 6 watt amp doesnt do exactly the same thing? If you can valve up a solidstate or digital signal by adding a ecc83 some where in its signal path, then surely you can solidstate up a valve amp by adding a transistor based effect to the signal chain.

Also whilst were about it please explain the tonestack alterations made by the frontend modelling of the vibrochamp xd and how they are no more than eq adjustments.
