I have a black over sunburst strat I just relic'd and put the replica of the 1963 logo on a maple vintage neck....

After the process I have yet to see another 1963 black strat (fake or original) with the maple fretboard....

Did they make any of these with a maple or was 60's strickly Rosewood....

Any help or info would be appreciated....
Thanks,
Kev

I don't think they did. I think they made them all with rosewood's when it hit 1960, and then brang the maple neck in again in 1968.

Not that it really matters a whole lot to me because I built it for me to play and not sell it.. I just wanted a maple neck on it..... guess I should have put the 57 logo on it, huh? to make it more legitimate.... [/img]

Thank you for the legal lesson.... I know it's not legit.... but I can not afford to pay several hundred dollars for a mim roadworn.... let alone a original vintage strat... Dont really care cause I have no plans to sell it, its for my enjoyment to play..... just wanted it to be close to the real thing....

The one-piece maple neck has been dropped in 1959 in favor of the warmer rosewood. CBS offered a laminated maple-cap fretboard in 1967 and reintroduced the one-piece maple neck in 1969, making it a standard feature together with rosewood. The 5-way switch has been introduced in 1977.

From my understanding, the Fender Custom Shop had built faithful reproductions of several Fender guitars produced between 1960 and 1965 with the optional maple-cap neck and the 5-way selector switch a couple of years ago.

Rosewood was the rule for 1959 to 1967 Fenders but there were a few rare maple neck ones made during that era....I have seen pictures of these to prove it.These were custom orders that clients specified. They would have a maple capped fretboard glued onto a maple neck...the same construction technique as if it were a rosewood fretboard.Due to popular demand, maple necks became officially available again in the 1967 catalogue.

I am okay with that as long as there is no serial number, either. That way, a potential buyer could never be fooled to thinking it was an OEM Fender.

my dad bought me a used strat in 1964. i remember it being only a year or two old when i got it.

i just dug up an old picture. it was lake placid blue with a maple neck.

could the guitar be older than i thought? if it is, i am now really upset that i sold it in the early 70's

Maple necks were optional in the "rosewood cap"years and are now worth 10-15% more on the collectors market.

If you can post a picture, we might be able to tell you. Scan it in, upload it, link it, please!

As Sonny Wolf said, there were some maple necks put out by Fender during the rosewood era of the '60s. Maybe more Teles got them than Strats, though.

That is for sure!

No one is going to mistake that for a real strat, however.
The 12th Fret Dot spacing just screams out: fake, fake.

Did the 60's rosewood necks have the skunk stripe? I noticed the roadworn 60's strat dont have them but the 50's do.....
