The finish on my HWY 1 was a flat black, but the front top where the arm rests on it and on a part of the back looks kind of "shiny" now.... I tried to buff it out in case it was oil from my skin.... but the shine is still there

Has this happened to anyone else? I know the finish is nitro just didnt know if this is natural and its thinning or if I need to buff harder

Whats causing it and is it the process of wearing thin to look aged? or is it just oil build up?

Basically, your arm is acting like a polishing cloth. Any time you rub a flat/matte finish long enough, you'll get a polished effect. It's not so much that the finish is thin, but that it's matte.

I wouldn't sweat it thats part of having a nitro finish. If anything it adds character to the axe. My Hwy 1 Tele is starting to do the same on the arm rest section and the underside where it rests against my leg. I like it though, for me it means I have enjoyed the guitar and played it a lot.

My Highway 1 Strat has a "shiney" spot there, up by the upper horn at the neck, where I rest it on my my thigh when I play sitting down, and at the stomach curve. I do not mind. I have played it a lot the last two years.

The above two posts are right. The nitro will get shinier over time, I think it looks pretty cool on mine. I have a sunburst strat and its getting like that where my arm rests.

My daphne blue H1 absorbed some lovely indigo from my jeans.

I have 3 guitars with satin finish and all started to get glossy spots after a few hours of playing. It's normal. Embrace the fast aging, people pay extra for a relic'd guitar

This is a good point. Whilst I'm more than happy to get shiny spots on my Highway Strat, I object to it picking up colour from my gtr strap. I had to take off the heavy duty black canvas strap i was using, and replaced it with a suede one in the same colour (blonde).

I was surprised to discover just how delicate the nitro finish actually is!

My Hwy 1 Tele is only a few weeks old and the finish is changing already. I wouldn`t get crazy over it, instead of the finish wearing off like a Road Worn or older guitar these are shinning up where theres more contact with them.
