What you sent the screws back to fender???? Is there a shortage?

I notice you kept the backplate safely in the kitchen drawer though.

mthorn of course I'm kidding, everyone knows that putting brass screws in your back plate is the only thing that can increase sustain.

Taking the back cover off lets the "Tone Fairies" in. Your strat won't sound good until those fairies go to work on ya axe.

So you take the back plate and ...

OPTION A : Take the backplate and the screws

OPTION B : Take the back plate and put the screws back in the holes.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ???

I recommend a solid wood wall - no masonite and definitely no concrete!

They have to stick out a little. You can countersink them but you eat into valuable "tone wood".

There is a school of thought that believes the extra metal to wood contact improves tone. I say hogswash, the metal to wood contact is just perfect without eating into extra tone wood.

I did it and it worked/is working for all parties involved.

I've a strat I adore.

Someone has some bit of a build thread going on smewhere

Theres still a nice scorched outline of a strat on the garden path.

win win win in my book.

Some people will tell you to screw them all the way in and then back them off half a turn, others say just until it's firm and not swinging freely.

Have you considered screwing them mostly in so the holes are filled which would obviously create more resonance - but then cut the heads off so they don't catch on your clothes?

Gonna have to agree w/ Nikininja and Martian.
I say it's BS.

I have left the back off out of laziness on occasion. But then O.C.D kicks in and I scramble to put it all back in it's place.

Mise en Place 8) -N
