Sorry guys, but when I posted about having the exact same American Standard, neck date 10/28/87, I neglected to mention that mine is a maple fingerboard. Just to confirm; i was the first one to open it (very recently) and it is totally unmolested. anyone out there with a maple board Standard from the same time frame? Thanks.

I don't have one but that sounds like a very cool guitar. I wanted to note that in your first post you mention it has a "TBX tone pot but other than that it is standard" - the TBX tone pot was the standard pot for the middle and bridge pickups in the American Standard models from their introduction until the Delta Tone came out in late 1995/early 1996 (if I'm remembering correctly).

Yeah I also had thought that the tbx was only on the strat plusses but indeed they all had the tbx during this era. So our weird yellow strats are totally standard. Gigging mine all weekend. This is the first one I've heard of with the maple fretboard!

When I bought mine, the guitar sales guy told me this 'great' story about some Fender employee overhearing Jeff Beck commenting that it would be cool to have a strat the color of the '32 Ford in the movie, American Grafitti." Then, when Jeff was presented with the model and asked to put his signature on the line, he refused and Fender was left with a bunch of guitars that color. Well, I thought it was a pretty good story, but I have yet to hear any confirmation and have always wnondered if the guy was just practicing his creative story telling...

Yes, but Jeff finally accepted to have a signature model in 1991. He opted for a signature guitar based on the Strat Plus built to his own specifications.

The original Jeff Beck guitar sported many of the features found on the Plus series Strats, but featured a fat baseball bat neck profile and a dual Gold Lace sensor in the bridge with a special push-push button to split the front coil of the humbucker. It was available in Seafoam Green, Vintage White, Midnight Purple and Mystic Black*.

(* = Custom Shop version only).

Originally shipped with the Wilkinson roller nut, the guitar was updated with an LSR nut and a spaghetti logo in 1993. From 1998 to 2000, all original JB Strats came with an universal HSH rout.

In 2001 the fat bat neck was slimmed down into a thinner C profile with a beveled contoured heel for easier access to the upper registers and the Lace Sensors were replaced by a trio of dual coil ceramic Noiseless pickups. Three years later, Fender introduced a Custom Shop version of this fabled Stratmeister's signature axe.

I had one in my hands it was the powerhouse strats that came in G/Y
went back to the store that had it the next few days and it was gone.

Still on my list of guitars I should have grabbed up in the moment.

Sure wish fender would bring that color back and a standard in Surf green with a maple fretboard

Ok I knew there was a reason that the Crazy Yellow Strat called to me,,, because it was an odd ball, like me and it really irrated the wife, don't know why,,
I fell in love with her the moment the dealer opened the case.. Love the fat neck,, the EMG's Selects the Spurtzel tuners and the way she sounds. I have had her since like 1990,, gigged her and took very, very good care of her she still looks new. She has aged much better than me.
I never knew till this forum how special she is... I have several guitars but this one is my favorite, second to my Wine coloured Les Paul Studio..

Glad to be a part of the Strat Pack......

Ok, first I have to say, that I love my Cousin Kenny for originally puiting a guitar into my hands some 45 years... Kenny has gone but a bit of him lives on with me...
The stable is respectible, the Wine Studio Paul , The GY Strat ,, an Aria with a Welsh Dragon flag logo on the front that I bought in Wales that Aria's website has no info on,, does that make it rare??
Fender 12 string Acoustic with a wired bridge, a hollow bodied strat boutique guitar and the Vox Ad120VTX Power plant,, Lot's of other guitars have come n gone over the year but my all time favorite is the GYS Strat been with me30 years.
WHO KNEW THAT THE GYS HAD IT'S OWN FORUM,,, I originally bought it because I needed a new axe to use in this Country Western I had been invited into, the color was cool but really secondary to the need..
To ammend my previous post,,, The Strat is my #1,,, not second to the Paul !!!!

Hey Drmaxfield-I've got a graffiti yellow american standard strat with a maple neck. I bought it in 1987. Serial number is E424xxx. I haven't been able to find out much info on it. Anything you could pass along would be appreciated. Thanks

A couple of "American Series" Strats were also offered in Graffiti Yellow such as this 2001 example (not mine).

Not sure if it's true.

If yes, then this colour offering was shortlived, as many colours disappeared from the Fender colour chart over the years and replaced by new finishes previously unavailable on a specific series.

Perhaps John C might know much more about this interesting fact.
