I honestly think its because their so easy to customize. I've four strats, every one of them is wired differently, and each does something non of the others do. I know there are many ways of wiring twin humbucker guitars, but most of those switching options dont make anywhere near the difference a typical strat wiring mod does.

Also their the best designed guitar around. Super comfortable and look like something from outer space. Why wouldnt you want one, or ten?

hey I have loved fender for a long time but I came across a guitar called G&L Guitars and I have to say that they are a lot better then your Fenders but Leo made them so they look like a fender but they sound better and the action is better. so G&L are better hands down

G&L does make a good guitar. I own one. But I won't be giving up my Fenders. Nothing that I've ever played compares to my Clapton Strat.

I cant see why you would come on a fender.com forum to tell us about G&L . Every strat users know G&L for sure . theyre good guitar but so are fender stratocaster .. ive never like the headstock of the G&L personnaly .

Leo made them ... what year is your G&L ... if its after 1991 .. i highly doubt Leo built it . unless hes using his coffin's wood to make the guitar from 6 feet under ..

i doubt Leo has something to do with G&L now . :)

Both are good but i prefer fender . but G&L made great guitar .. ive never like the headstock though .

back to the thread .. why do people own multiple strats ??? simply because once you've played one .. you cant believe that they all sound that good so you need another one . then you think you only got lucky to find 2 amazing guitar and think " they cant make 3 like that " .. so you get another one to confirm ... and so on .

then once you got 3 or more .. you realized your SAD ( Strat Acquisiton Dependent )

Not many people own two or more Martin D-28s or Gibson ES-335s or SGs or even Jaguars or Jazzmasters.

So why do so many pickers own more than one Fender Stratocaster?

EASY!!! They are CHEAP! (Not the quality, just a low price for a quality American Instrument). A cheap gibson is a melody maker which is too girly and barebones for any serious player out there. Fender American Series new, $1,000, used $700. Gibson ES-335 new, $3,000. Used, $2,000. Same for Martins....

Lots of variety among Strats, multiple price points, different necks, electronics, radius. I used to think I could never get used to a Strat with a 7.25 radius after playing on mostly Strats with a 9.5. Now that I have one it is fast becoming my favorite.

Mine is a 1983 F-100 and under the neck, on the body, it is SINGED by LEO FENDER and I came on a fender forum and tell you guys about a G&L Guitar because They are way better then a start and they cast less. If you by a Fender then you are just bying the name Fender thats because Fender thinks that they are the best so they don't change any thing now with a G&L you are bying a great guitar. Fender: leo's first guitar. G&L: leo's last

Jake,
Preference is a personal thing and you are entitled to yours. As for Fender being somehow a lesser guitar than G&L - I don't think so. But that's my preference. Let's just leave it at that and not get silly with it.

In my personal opinion I think that Fender products and Strats in general are the best value on the market therefore people are not afraid to have a few. Also with the Mexican built guitars being of such good quality and competitive price I think it lends itself to that as well. As mentioned before 3 Strats that look the same side by side can have many different variations in them so there's a lot of choice.

But they are nice guitars, probably the nicest guitar for the money you can find.

Yes....indeed Strat people are just a bit strange!

What would make a sane person collect the ENTIRE COLOR SPECTRUM of a particular series? (Highway One HSS to be exact!)
(rationale: They ALL have had different pickups installed....so they ALL do indeed have distinct sounds!!)

There are also 3 others that aren't included in this picture:
1979 Antigua Strat
60's Reverse Special
2002 Am. Dlx. Fat Strat

GUILTY!!!!

Hi BigFrank

I honestly think G&L are better guitars than Fender guitars. The simple fact is that they dont look as good. The Tele, Strat and PBass were designed at a time when image was of paramount importance in music. You had to be clean cut and seen to be doing it right. The late 70's-87ish no one cared much. All you had to compete with were gibson xplrers and V's and pink metal strats. Leo introduced a line of instruments that functioned better than anything and sounded superb. Real player guitars. You wouldnt take one on 'top of the pops' though would you?
