Not many people own two or more Martin D-28s or Gibson ES-335s or SGs or even Jaguars or Jazzmasters.

So why do so many pickers own more than one Fender Stratocaster?

Lot's of variety and reasonable prices make it pretty easy to start collecting Strats. 8)

Because you could own two Stratocasters that look, sound and feel like two completely different instruments, due to pickups, neck radius and material, fretboard material, the type of wood used for the body, pickguard, paint/finish, type of headstock, type of logo (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or any combination thereof)...

...you can't do that with a Martin or a 335, those options just aren't available!

Also, Strats and Teles are the most customizable guitars ever; you can get two Strats for the different aspects of your playing, personal style, and sound...you can feed your mulitple personalities! :P

Since I bought a Strat I have some weird-warm feelings about this guitar comparing to previous ones. I like to hold the guitar, enjoy playing in totally different way-more expressional and genuine, can't take my eyes of her...maybe it's love?? :)

Probably we Strat people are strange indeed :)

And I couldn't agree more with other comments.

Have you ever owned one?

About multiple guitars I would also say that it's a SIN to force the only one Strat in to specific direction beacause it's so versatile guitar. I play genres now-wideeeeer range that I've never played before because everything sounds sooooo beautifully on this beauty.

On the other hand for some occasions I would love different sets of pickups (heavier, mellower...), maybe even floyd rose, maple, rosewood, SSS, HSS, HSH............... etc etc...

So I got myself HSS MIA Std Strat for the first.

If there will be more guitars the will mainly be strats "forced" into the previously mentioned directions as I now just can't and won't do since I have only one.

I agree that we "Strat people" are probably weird. Every guitar that I have is a type of Strat, from the Big Apple (humbuckers) to the Stratosonic (mahogany body w/P-90's) to my first built-to-order Strat, and my modded MIM's. I can use different pickups, woods, etc. to get tones ranging from one end of the spectrum to the other, while keeping that familiar feel, and that's why I love my Strats :D

I think it is because they are great instruments, and they are cheap enough to be able to afford more than 1.

I know people that have multiple Gibsons or PRS guitars, but they have more disposable income than I.

I have 4 Strats and a Stratacoustic(because of the shape and Strat neck) and although all are unmistakeably Strats when you hear them each has it's own unique tone and feel, this week I bought Strat No. 4-a Jimmy Vaughn and after trying several Strats from the cheapest to most expensive I bought this one because the tone and feel was most like my '65 Strat.I imagine I'll be getting more Strats in years to come because as I said earlier each has it's own personality.
