ok, so i may get alot of "i told you so",
but for a while i havent really been happy with my tone.
so i lowered them almost flushed with the pickguard, and i was pleasantly surprised at the more vintage tone i got.
it sustained nicer, i tried the nickel method it sounded louder, but then my notes were shorter. this is clean, after i lowered the pickups it lowered the volume but just a little, and my notes sustained longer.
may be a little premature, but it sounds really good.

i was considering changing them to tx spcls, but for now placed in the back burner.

Agreed -- One thing I have learned here in this forum is that guitarists have a tendency to have pups too high. They often sound better lower. My Tex Mex pups are just higher than "flush to the pickguard" ... and I could not be happier with their tone. It improves playability for me, too, as I used to get some physical interference with the middle pup.

it did improve my tone.
my friend has tex mex pickups on his am mahagony special.
and his sound fantastic, his were almost flushed.
to my ears it also added rich harmonics, if that makes sense.

I tried changing the height of my pickups this weekend. So many people here talk about pickup heights I decided to mess around and see if there was a difference and even though it did change the tone I ended up back at the starting heights. LOL

I think I found the perfect pickup height setting.

Give this a try and tell me if it don't give a GREAT TONE!!!

set the pickups so that the top of the low E string is 1/4 inch from it's pole piece and top the high E is 1/4 inch from it's pole piece, but do it without fretting the strings at the last fret (just leave them un-fretted).

Let me know what you think.

Also, float your bridge (if it's not floating already). Even if you don't use your tremolo, it makes a difference in the tone as well.
