The straplock button attached to the body of my Amer Deluxe by the neck (Schaller) was loose and even when I tried to just tighten it, it would just come back loose as soon as I put the strap on. My bass player (who will only touch two basses, a Stingray 5 and a 57 RI P Bass) said to remove the strap button, take two pieces of a toothpick and break them off the legnth of the drilled hole. Then, squirt a little glue down the hole and reattach the button. Anyone ever heard of this?

It should work--depending on the size of hole and the size of the toothpicks, you might need more or fewer toothpicks.

I've had the same experience (I even was told about the fix from my bass player!). I've done it and it works. Every once in a while you might have to redo it since I think the glue wears out. I've found that using wood glue works the better than regular elmers glue; it lasts a lot longer. In fact, I did the job on my strat with wood glue about three years ago and I've yet to redo it. I gig pretty regularly and put quite a few miles on my guitar. I really don't even worry about loose strap buttons anymore.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Debate is settled....Wood glue, golf tee and the original screw. :)
