Get two spoons, insert tips under opposite sides of the knob, press down on handles.

the two tone knobs popped right off. but the volume knob with the S1 isn't coming off so easily. I'm just worried about breaking something.

make sure you put gentle pressure when trying to pry off the knobs. the knob on the 5-way switch should come off easily.

what can be tricky is trying to put the pickups back in. if they are spring-held, it takes a little dexterity.

i changed the pickguard on my mim strat. i also put chrome pickup covers and knobs on. it took me less than 2 hours from the time i took off the strings until i was ready to play.

take your time- do it right, and you'll like the results.

Tanner 1994 -

Thanks for the U Tube links. Now I have even more things I want to do. Sometimes I forget that all of mankind's wisdom is contained somewhere on U Tube. Some of the lick lessons are pretty good too.

Guys, Now that you have me hooked on this thread and am confident in replacing the pick guard, I am interested in sources for cool ones. I have a relatively new American Std in 3 color sunburst with the rosewood neck and attractive 3 ply pick guard.. Spent too much time playing on Greasy Groove.com looking at all of the great graphics but found that none of them really went with the sunburst color. I lean to a lighter color so the dark brown pick guard does not appeal. Like graphics and color if tasteful. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I just ordered a tortoise shell for my sunburst strat. If you want lighter though you can never go wrong with a white pearl.

When I did my PUPS, I figured that I should just do everything at once. So I went with the White Pearl, and love it. I think it classed it up a notch.

Thanks for the help and the great picture. Sure is pretty. The white pearl looks great and certainly "kicks it up a notch". What was your source for the pick guard and is it 3 ply like the standard white pick guard I have now?

It is a Fender product. Model# 0992140000

I had to special order it from my local music shop. I believe that MF, GC, or any of the other online stores will carry it. They just don't ship to Canada, that's why I had to special order. It ran me just over $50.

And thanks, I do love the look of the pearl. I believe it is a 4-ply, all white.
