Everyone pretty much knows how to determine the year on pretty much any strat. So can anyone tell me what the numbers mean after the first 2 or 3 numbers???

For example:

MZ6279494

K...its a mexican 2006...

what does the 279494 mean!?

Any help would be great! Thanks!

Its just numbering that doesnt mean anything of any relevance. It may be related to roughly what number the guitar was of the 100,000 odd produced that year. I doubt it though. Fender have the serials made up and just plant em on whatever they make that year. I know that with customshop neckplates they just make a load up and the builder grabs one off the wall.

One of my Mexicans has a serial number that starts with MZ6 and it's not a 2006. It was actually dated at 1/3/2007. So the first number does not always denote the year. The serial number on the guitar represents the final day the guitar was put together. It can run into the next year as pointed out on my example. Does that make my guitar a 2007 model? I say, yes it does. To get the actual birth date of your guitar send Fender customer service your serial number and they will tell you the exact date along with many specifics concerning your guitar and it's components.

My understanding is that there is a "batch" number, and then the count of that guitar within that batch, I THINK.

Citing your example, MZ6 is indeed a Mexican 2006, and it's the 494th guitar made in Batch# 279, or vice-versa, the 279th guitar made in Batch# 494. Something like that... :?

Yeah thats kinda what I figured...

I also thought it would be how they code amps too maybe?

mz6279494

2006, 27th day of month 9, and it was the 494th guitar made that day?

I might even be wrong with how they stamp the amps but...just a thought!

If it does mean something, someone out there at Fender knows and they're not talking. Again it's probably just an asset number made by some random algorithm, like a credit card number.
