ive used one of these to clean my rosewood fretboard today:

Image

It took off all the gunk, but it also left some tiny scratches. i didnt think it would mark the would, and using the pad going with the grain pretty much got rid of the scratches.

When i say scratches, they were barely scuff's, but im wondering if this item is too hard for cleaning a fretboard? I thought it would be softer than steel wool and so completely safe.

Am i just being anal about some tiny tiny scuffs on the fretboard that will prob disappear after its left to soak in some fretboard oil overnight?

My fretboard sure didn't have any "shine" when I got it. When I got my guitar home I pulled off the strings, polished the frets and then used some "Cedar Oil" on the fretboard. This gave it a nice, rich appearance but once I wiped off the excess, it still didn't have any shine. Most people will use a Lemon oil on rosewood to keep it looking nice but I can't say I've ever seen one which was shiney.

Cheers.

mine defo had a bit of a luster to it when it came fresh from the case.

I use bore oil on the fretboard about twice anually to keep it nice and fresh, and although it leaves the color nice and deep and rich, it doesnt actually leave the factory shine on it.

I think if i use 000 grade wire wool on it it will give the shine, but not sure.

A friend of mine uses a product called "Mr Sheen". Don't know if you can get it wherever you are but it comes in an aerosol can, is a lightly foaming product which is used as a furniture polish for glossy finishes. It leaves a nice lustre on his fretboards and doesn't seem to damage them (he's used it for years!)but I don't use it as I don't think it really nourishes the wood.

I think 000 steel wool would have pretty much the same effect as your scourer pads. I actually use it to polish my frets.

Hello!

To maintain my rosewood boards I use a polishing or mircofiber cloth without any cleaner as often as i remember. Twice a year I use a couple of squirts of Dunlope Lemon Oil on the cloth, wipe the board and leave it for 15min. This helps remove any "chunky bits". I Then wipe it clean, and wait 24hrs before putting new strings on.

Maple boards just get a wipe with the cloth. Nothing else.

Enjoy

Wow, That is not something I would even consider using on any guitar of mine.

I use 0000 Steel wool on the fretboard then Gerlitz Guitar Honey to treat it.

Nooo! I use lemmon oil on mine about 4 times a year. It really depends where you are from and how dirty your finger are when playing as to how many times a year to clean your rosewood fret board. In between I just use a microfiber cloth to wipe it down. As for those tiney scuffs, I would recomment 000 grade wire wool, but that might even leave a few small scratches.

I would never use a furniture polish on a guitar. I believe they leave a residue that is incredibly hard to remove and can cause big problems should you ever need to refinish the guitar.

Il get some 000 grade steel wool and buff up the fretboard. thanks.

I use a firm toothbrush to clean gunk away from the edges of the frets and then moisturize to wood with lemon oil once or twice a year making sure to firmly wipe up and wick away any excess oil.

Q: Is it OK to use Image to clean a rosewood fretboard?

A: Only if you dont like it very much.

I'm a very firm believer in BMW-KTM's method. Its all I've done for twenty odd years and works great.

Has anyone tried Murphy's Oil Soap for wood finishes? If so... what was the outcome? 8)

So far, I'm just wiping down the guitar after playing and not worrying about cleaning it. I don't see any buildup of grime on it anywhere.
