Hi All,

I just bought a new American Strat and pealed the plastic film off the pick guard to remove the stickers. There's still some adhesive residue. What can I use to remove this without damaging the pick guard's finish?

TIA...

put a little lighter fluid on a rag then wash it off with a water damp rag.

Great for cleaning the fretboard too when you change strings.

There is a cleaner made from citrus oil that is sold at most drug stores, dollar stores and even Office Max and Home Depot. It's called Goo Gone.

It's usually just a couple of bucks for a 3 oz. bottle, but that will last for a long time as a little goes a long way. Just dab it on with a paper towel or soft cloth, let it sit for a minute or two, and then wipe away the glue. Because it is an oil it will leave a slight film, but just buff with a dry cloth and everything will be a-okay.

White spirit is good for that - at least that's what it's called in the U.K. It may be known as 'turpentine substitute' elsewhere - it's used for cleaning paint brushes and stuff.

I assume the contributor who mentioned lighter fluid was refering to the petroleum spirit (basically petrol/gasoline), as used in old-fashioned 'Zippo' type lighters; not liquid butane!!

+1 on the Goo Gone. I've used it to remove sticker glue off my motorcycle tanks. It's effective. Just a word of caution... as with anything, try a tiny spot first before slathering a lot of it on your pick guard. Just to be safe. 8)

Goo Gone and Q Tips worked the best when I had to remove way too much adhesive from my '56 NOS Strat's pickguard.
