wanted to get some info on this guitar.

2001 surf pearl ( not surf green, candy color)

are the pickups texas special custom?

what is different about this vs a std strat, it was priced between a std and a deluxe in 2001

I got it a while back on ebay for 770 bucks plus shipping, excellent cond.

what are these worth?
sound differnt than my 2006 std, but not like my 2004 deluxe
thanks

J

The Texas Special Strat is from Fender's Hot Rodded American Series line. It used to be called the Roadhouse before 2000, when the American Series line was called the American Standard. The only differences between the Texas Special and the regular American Series Strat are the pick-ups (Texas Specials) and the pickguard/trem cover (white pearloid on the Texas Spec. vs. Parchment on the regular Amer. Series).

BTW, in 2001 the color for this model is called Teal Green Metallic.

I just looked through the 2001 Fender Frontline catalog. The Texas Special is Teal Green Metallic. I didn't see Surf Pearl listed as an option for any Strat in the whole catalog.

Edited to add: On a whim I checked the 2002 catalog, and wouldn't you know it... the Texas Special Strat is listed as Surf Pearl! Fender could have started using that color at the end of the 2001 model year, but not listed it in the catalog until 2002. If jeff54 has any original paperwork/receipt for the guitar there should be a model number listed with the color code at the end. The Texas Special w/rosewood fretboard model number is 011-7300, and at the end would be either 45 for Teal Green Metallic, or 81 for Surf Pearl.

A friend has a Texas Special Fat Strat in Teal Green Metallic, and his guitar seems to be a bit darker than this one, so it probably is Surf Pearl.

I knew that these catalogs would come in handy! :)

Either way...I LOVE the color and I'm a big fan of the pearloid pick guard.
