I picked up a new Strat today. From the serial number, I am pretty sure that it is a '95 '62 reissue, made in Japan. The fit and finish is really nice. It has an excellent neck, not to thin, not too thick. I'd call it a medium "c" shaped neck. I'm not sure about the pickups yet, however. They are a little thin sounding and lack bottom end. But I"ll play with heights and see what I can get out of them. I might end up puting 57/62 or 69 pickups in it. The stock pickup is RWRP, which is nice though. Looks like a basswood body?

So, does anyone have experience playing these mid-90's reissues? Can anyone tell me what the number on the neck mean? Does anything look unusual (incorrect) with the interior shots?

Thanks

Very nice looking guitar.

ST-62DGF is the part number. 62 Strat neck. Not sure on the DGF.

Looks like there is some corrosion/rust that needs to be cleaned up in the electronics. Also looks to be several cold solders.

Very nice guitar,it's been quite a while since I've seen a Garnet amp, they were cool rigs in their day.I believe it was Garnet that used to put orange warning labels on their amps that the loud volume from them could cause permanent hearing loss,no doubt to boost sales as anyone seeing that on an amp would buy it in those days.

It's definitely a 95/96 for sure. The necks on those guitars are one of the best I have ever played. They just "fit" into your hand. A grest guitar. Change the pups and electrics to really get the best out of it, don't waste your time fiddling around. Nice find!

Thanks for the comments. I absolutely love that Garnet amp. A friend of mine gave it to me along with a Garnet bass amp. Neither of them worked. I took the Rebel Deluxe in to a tech and it just needed to be re-capped and re-tubed. It's great for overdrive. It has no clean headroom, so you need to learn to use the volume knob on your guitar. The volume knob is basically an overdrive knob. It stays close to the same volume all the way up the knob, but the tubes break up more as you increase the knob. I often a/b it with the Super Reverb to go from super-clean to super-overdriven.

As for the guitar, I think I will change the pickups, and maybe the pots.

The cold solder joint comment makes sense. When in position 2(?) (neck/middle), the volume drops and it sounds like an AM radio...

Personally I would clean up the wiring/solders and leave it stock to see how it sounds.

Looks ge to me. I have an '84 MIJ that I bought new, it's in bit's at the moment so I've just looked at the inside of the (still filled) sratch-plate, several details are like yours:-

the extent of the metal foil is the same - just arround the tone pots, everything looks similar apart from the five-way selector switch: this may have been changed between the 80s and 90s anyhow.

The back of thge neck looks similar too. Mine used to have 'made in Japan' on the heal in the same place as yours. I srtached it off years' ago, that was back in the days when nobody realized that MIJ was good ( I bought it new in 84!)

In the area that would be hidden by the heel of the guitar the underside of the neck on mine has a the 'number': CST-50R in black, preceaded by a red letter L. Elsewhere on the heel is letter K. Mine's a 70s three-bolt neck reissue. Lovely quality but sounded abit 'dark', not as bright and jangley as most strats. I've heard that by the mid 90s, MIJ where at their best so it sounds like a good find¬!
