Just decided I'm naming my strat winston, after churchill. I wanna put the name on the guitar (non-permanent or damaging). Anybody have a creative idea for how to go about doing that? I was thinking churchill's signature on the back plate, or else a label from a pack of Winston cigarettes.

You could use one of the putty type adhesives that are used for putting up posters, pix etc. on walls without doing damage.Any office supply or stationary store should have them.

Or a trophy shop could make you any manner of fancy brass plate which could be pinned, taped, glued or screwed to some part of the guitar. Maybe even a laminate of a photo of Sir Winston.

Man, what a character, man of history. If he channels you through the axe, chances are you will know it.

Hmm maybe I'll try that.

Any other ideas for how to put the name on there? (churchill's sig, label from cigarettes, etc)

Neck plates are pretty cheap. Buy a spare and take it to a decent jeweler and have it engraved. Keep your original in a safe place.

My 2¢ worth. 8)

While I agree with the neck plate idea (I had one engraved with my birthdate as the "serial number"), here's another for you if you're looking for something "non-permanent"...

One of those static window clings. Check with craft and hobby shops...you should be able to find some kind of inkjet kit for making your own, then you can just apply it where ever you want on the guitar...when you get sick of it, just take it off again. If push comes to shove, just Google "DIY window cling" and you'll find a lot of stuff.

Peace,
Jim

I think the cigarette pack idea is cool as a lot of musicians are smokers. One idea would be to get a clear pickguard and decoupage several packs on the underside. It's not permenant because you could always put your original pickguard back on anytime you want, but I don't know if you're willing to go that far or not.

I like the laser engraving idea. If it's not too expensive maybe I'll get a quick quote of his on the neck plate.

The cigarette pickguard is a really cool idea actually. If I didn't love the look I already have (tortoise on off-white) I would definitely do that. I'll think about that if I ever want to change the look though.

I think what I might end up doing is a cig pack collage on the back plate (or maybe just one pack?) and possibly a quote on the neck plate.
