So I have a Mexi Deluxe Powerhouse strat and I am looking at getting new pickups in it.

My first question is will the active circuitry for the 15db boost cause any problems with new pickups.

Secondly, what do people here recommend. I play a lot of alternative, and some blues and pop. Any suggestions. I listen to a lot of radiohead and I know Johnny uses lace sensors, anyone have an opinion on those and what combination of those are good. I was also looking at the noiseless pickups. Let me know what you people think or if there is any other sets that you would recommend.

Thanks

With the boost circuit i would go for noiseless, lace or stacked humbuckers.

Hey! Just saw your question about pickups for your Powerhouse. I have a Powerhouse that I have changed pickups in four or five times. First thing you need to know is the stock pickups are American Strat pickups and very good on their own. You can look up the part numbers on Fender's website and compare them with an American Statndard guitar - they're the same. Second, changing pickups in the Powerhouse requires no modifications to the active boost system, but you should disconnect the battery before firing up the soldering iron. Third, because of the powerhouse system, the guitar is noise canceling. There is a dummy coil underneath the pickguard which makes it a noiseless system. Therefore, lace sensors or noiseless pickups that other posters have suggested would be useless. The best pickups I have found have been Custom Shop '54s - I've had two sets. Tried them once and really liked them, then went with something else. Then I tried a set of Bill Lawrence noiseless pickups, but had to replace the entire pickguard, pots, 5-way, etc. Played it against a stock Powerhouse Strat and I put the stock pickups back in - they really are very good. I recently put a set of '54 CS back in and they're staying forever. They give the classic Strat tones and really get raunchy when you turn up the Powerhouse knob to full boost. A set of Texas specials would be really good too - more bite if you want it. The important thing is not to replace everything underneath the pickguard - leave the Powerhouse system intact and replace just the pickups. That way you retain the part of the guitar that makes it special - the poor man's Clapton - and enhance the tone. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help, I knew someone out there had to have tried new pickups in these before. I always wondered what that dummy pickup was inside too. Anyways, Maybe I'll give those 54's you were talking about. Something to give me a little different kick.
