Hey everyone - just wanted to share some pics of my new Strat. I originally wanted a 70's reissue for its looks and mojo. But kinda wanted a 4-bolt neck. Also, it doesn't come in Vintage white.

Anywho... I called Fender and priced a custom-shop guitar. $2,700 for the exact guitar I built from parts (minus Kluson tuners and Nitro finish). Here are the specs:

eBay
Neck: 2009 Highway-One (9.5, rosewood, 70's CBS-era headstock)
Body: 2009 Yngwie Malmsteen
2009 Vintage tremolo

Musicians Friend
New pots, switch, knobs, pick guard, tremolo cover, jack.
PUPS: 57/62

Looks fantastic! Out of curiosity, how much did it cost you to build your guitar compared to the custom shop price you got quoted?

Plays fantastic! I set the pickup heights and action to Fender specs. No neck problems, or anything else. I DID buy a book from Amazon ($27) on setting up and maintaining strats.

I love it, I couldn't ask for a better guitar. And thankfully, I save OVER $1,100 - by doing it my self. I sacrificed no feature and have the personal satisfaction of doing it myself.

Total "build" time: 2:45 minutes. I bet others can do this way quicker, but it was my first time.

This was the video that convinced me to stop hating Rosewood necks and build this one:

Brad- I NEED this book!! I looked on Amazon.com and found a book called, "The Fender Stratocaster Handbook: How To Buy, Maintain, Set Up, Troubleshoot, and Modify Your Strat" by Paul Balmer. Is that the one that you used??

Oh, and where did you order the body and the neck from? Your local dealer? Just curious.

BTW- thanks for the great info, brutha!! VERY cool post, and a VERY COOL guitar!! Enjoy her- sounds like she's a keeper!! :D

This book is a GODSEND for a novice in the Stratocaster repair and maintenance world!! It should be included with every Strat sale as far as I'm concerned. GET IT IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT!!

I took my Subsonic Strat and put the same 2009 Highway 1 rosewood neck on it. Love the huge headstock! I am in the middle of setting it up. So far not going so well.... Looks awesome though. I will have to post pics when I get done. Nice job on your Strat!

Love the color combo...the vintage white looks sharp with the rosewood board. Of course I'm a little bias... [img]

Congratulations, bradjacob. That is truly a thing of beauty! I'm a sucker for a 70s headstock, and that vintage white body is full of creamy goodness. If it plays half as good as it looks, you are definitely a happy guy. Nicely done! 8)
