Hey folks, 'been wanting a pink Strat for a while and there are 2 Squiers at a local shop and the Frankencaster thoughts are coming in proliferation.

Couple queries:

How good are the $199.95 list price ones? This would be the starting point because it's pink.

Desired pup config is 2 black P-90s and maybe a Fender vibrato or Bigsby. What P-90s are good for jazz and surf (reverse wound or with dummy double coil to kill hum)?

'Thinking only vol and tone knobs and 3-way. Routing needed?

What does anyone think of necks and bridges on the out-of-the-box Squiers?

Thankee, folks!

Hi JSJH: one of my very favorite Strats is my much modded Squier, so nutt'n wrong with travelling that route in my view. Mind you, by now the body and its black paint are the only thing left from the original, so...

Must admit, I wasn't overly delighted with the neck on that Squier - but then it's from donkey's years ago. Things have likely improved by miles in that department.

Personally, I'd go for three P90s with output towards the lower end of the range. That almost certainly will involve routing but will also permit the middle one to be RW/RP for some humless selector options.

I mean, a Strat just has to have three pickups, right? :D

Oh, and ask if you need help finding a pickguard for those P90s. They're out there.

Cheers - C

Thank you for the input.

Gotta check out the local 2 pink ones and maybe start sniffing. Three P-90s is kind of a hip concept, thanks.

Re the hardware being cheap cheap, yeah, that was a fear. Another is, this could possibly be a "nickel and dime y' to distraction" project....
