Need some advise. I have always adjusted my strat pickup height to the factory specs but recently read that this may not always be the best adjustment for all strats and that if adjusted wrong problems can occur with "over tones". Does anyone know what is meant by ovetones and also how would one go about obtaining the "best" pickup height for any given strat?

Would appreciate your comments and advise. Thanks.

Problems occur when the pickups are too close to the strings if they are standard single coils.

I personally never listen to any guide on how to set my pickups, although a few users on here have good methods to achieve a balanced sound.

I always do mine by ear, if I like what it sounds like where they are positioned, that's where I leave them. Lots of trial and error.

Currently my pickups are quite low and I like it.

When adjusting, do you primarily listen for volume changes or tone changes? Is the balance you refer to the balance between bass and treble on each pickup?

Do a search on the Forum for "Nickel Method".

Looks like you live close to me. If you want in person help we can probably arrange something.
